I have been on it for about 3 years now and so far it is still working for me. Are you currently on it and has it stopped working for you? Just curious because I wondered the same thing when I started it if it would continue to work. Like I say, so far so good.

Tamsulosin doesn't stop the prostate from growing. It may be that the medication is less effective because your husband's prostate is getting larger. If your husband's prostate is growing in such a way that it is creating a median lobe, or the median lobe is getting larger, drugs like tamsulosin are not very effective. I would suggest looking into Aquablation so that your husband can get off the medication.

In my case I’ve been on it for 10 years... and the problems have returned recently. I’m now planning surgery.

I took Tamsulosin for about 5 years and the effect did seem to lessen. That could be because of building tolerance to the drug, or as others here have suggested the prostate may have kept growing. In 2018 I started using intermittent self catheterization, so didn't need to take Tamsulosin any more, and have not used it since.

It stopped working for me after about 2 years. I now self cath which has worked really well for me. I also do not take the meds any longer. Self cathing has been a real game changer for me. It is very easy to do. I am hoping for better options down the road.
