Husband has hives on hands very itchy- help me, help him!

Last year my husband suddenly started to get hives on his hands extremely itchy. He has seen dermalogist doctors etc spent a lot of money. The doctor put him on ant-acid tablets and general allergy medication you can buy over the counter. He was on prendisolone for a while but you can't take it for a long period of time. He was fine taking the ant-acid and allergy tablets until now October which is the start of summer in Australia. His first attack happened same time last year. Can anyone help??? Beside medications is there anything that has helped anyone else. The itching and dots are slowing happening again!!!

Men are notorious for not protecting their skin and looking down on moisturising. I think it might help if he could use a non perfumed moisturiser regular on his hand to stop them drying out. Urticaria (hives) thrive on dry skin produced by either hot or cold conditions. It sounds like he has an allergic reaction to maybe pollen etc that can be invisible to the eye but is on everyday things he comes into contact with. Regularly washing his hand and moisturising afterwards may help. If his hands get really itchy a non drug way of dealing with this is with very salty water - this helps to stop the itch and when it stops and the redness/bumps go down moisturise. Hope he gets some ease.

I understand your frustration with all of the doctors. There is no clear cure if they persist longer than 6 weeks. You both will have to do trial and error and learn from the people on these sites because they are all dealing with it also. There is a drug called Xolair that is for chronic hive sufferers but even on my worst days I won't ask the doctor for it because the side effects are awful. Try diet changes. Read about leaky gut diets, low histamine diets..etc. Good Luck and keep us posted!

How are you doing? Have your hives improved? Did you try the Xolair injections? Please keep us posted. I hope you are doing well.
Best Regards,
Wendy

I am your neighbour from 'Down Under' living in NZ. I have not participated in Urticaria forums for a few years now but I have just recovered from my second bout of Urticaria. My first bout was about 5 years ago. I have a wonderfull GP and her prognosis was spot on. Firstly,I use a strong Hydrocortisone cream (1%) for not more than 10 days, Then I moisterise my exposed skin (arms and legs) with a cream called 'Non-Ionic. This cream is available 'over the counter' but I get mine prescribed with my other medications. Both products are made here and/or in Aus. I also take 1 anti-hestamine tablet daily throughout the year as I have an undetermined allergy. Hope this works. Regards.
