I have them in my knees regulary - in the US I beleive they call it Uflexxa among other things.  In my knees they work for about 6 months.

I had 1 injection in my hip about 6 months prior to THR, but it didn't do a thing, maybe the 3 injections would have helped, but the DO decided not to do 3 since the 1 did nothing.

My 2nd opinion guy said to not have any more as they fall in the same category of having too many cortosoid shots. I think that is due to infection possibilities. Thats really all I know.

I don't know if anything I said was helpful as I think the whole process coud be different depending on what type injection you use etc. I'd say go for it if you are not getting any steroid shots, or if you are, ask the doc about that specifically.

Oh and by the way, these injections for the hip are only 'experimental' in the US. They are supposed to be much more common in Europe.

Hello and thankyou for your reply...Yes...I've lookedit up and it seemsearly stages for these injections but I am so TIRED of being in pain taht I'm going to give it a go ..I am in Greece at the moment where we can do pretty much what wewant, unlike in the UK where our GP has to agree to whatever we ask for!!I am hoping ,that because it's hyaluronic acid and not cortisone or something like that ,it won't do any harm even if it doesn't do any good!Thankyou again.Take care.

My first cortisone shot lasted a good 3 months, and the 2nd one helped less, and then the Hylauronic last, didn't help at all. Good luck - hope it works for you.

I had ostenil extra and 1 injection and it has helped but not anywhere near as much as I imagined. Personally, I wish I had cortisone because the pain, although reduced isn't gone.

    Jennifer,

There is also hyaluronic supplements. I never used them but heard they can help but and also pack on the water weight pounds. They use hyaluronic acid in facial creams to plump up the wrinkles as well. Please let us know how the injections work out for you if you decide to get them.

They are sabotaging my comments.. I won't be posting again unless under a pseudonym when I get the other side done (yes, n the Netherlands) I will not even have a dental procedure in this country. A wing and a prayer is not good enough.  Maybe if there's a CCTV or video of the proceedings I'd submit, but otherwise, forget it... HA should be offered long before it reaches bone on bone , and a lot of it, forget the 1-10ml which wouldn't fill an eye dropper. It can be git in very viscous concentrations and like succulent plants, attracts moisture into the mass. Padding. It'll be ages before they allow this type of oreventative as natural products make no profit for drug companies.

Dont do it even though it is tempting

It doesnt work & its expensive. It could make the pain worse!

Just resign yourself to getting better painkillers from your doctor- there is a great range of things you can take and you will not get hooked if you are on the verge of surgery when you will need them anyway!

If you cant take anti inflammatories even with medication to protect your stomach ( you can do a couple of days & break for a day etc if you need to), you could try tramadol ( not controlled) or targin ( controlled but low on side effects)

This is definiely the lesser of 2 evils

    regards & good luck
