HYDROGEL/ PROSTRATE TREATMENT / ALLERGIC REACTION (ANAPHYLACTIC SHOCK)

Posted , 3 users are following.

My 62 year old brother just went into anaphylactic shock after he was injected with hydrogel in preparation for radiation treatment of his prostrate. The purpose of this hydrogel is to form a barrier around the rectum to prevent it from being damaged from the radiation.

But this gel takes 5 months to clear from the system.

Has anyone heard of this problem ??

Anyone know of the best way to treat this??

I am sorry to hear of your brother's experience.

There are a few articles on the serious topic. May I suggest you Google

    Good luck.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have done just that and it is ominous that there were major adverse reports, including serious anaphylactic shock , and the doctors at Mayo Clinic did not take precautions such as a very minor test dose.

Your comment on the doctors at Mayo is key.

I NEVER follow the hospital per se, I ALWAYS follow the physician.

For instance, there may be a highly regarded physician working for argument sake in Great Neck NY and a well regarded hospital in NYC.

Unless I knew 100% that the hospital in NYC was well regarded in urology, I would opt for a physician say in Great Neck. Few hospitals are great at every specialty.
