Hydromol helps me

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi Ladies, I`m 61 and I`ve had AV for about 6 years now following Tamoxifen treatment after breast cancer in 2003, and also a failry early menopause at 47.

The AV has become progressively worse, with almost continuous UTIs.

I had the usual soreness around my vag opening and sore itchy bum.

My GP suggested I try big blobs of Hydromol ointment on vagina and anus. She said 4 times daily, but I find twice a day is enough, morning and night. What relief! I have to use 2 panty liners as the oitment is sort of greasy and comes through onto clothes. I also use a blob of Hydromol in my palm and mix to a lotion with warm water to wash down there as my GP said using soap was very drying. I went 4 months without a UTI !

Hope this helps somone smile

Hi Jules, Thank you for telling us about the Hydromol Ointment. I am so glad it has helped you and that you have had no UTI's for 4 months. I've been troubled with this for almost a year now and had numerous UTI's when I first started with AV. I am now using Vagifem and Vit E Oil and trying to drink more water whilst taking Cranberry tablets too. I have been a bit better this last week or so but I will get myself a tub of Hydromol ointment as I know things can turn worse when I least expect them to. So that sounds like something great to fall back on. I am 57 by the way. I had my hip replaced in Dec so the last thing I need is any infection now! Apart from the soreness I've been troubled with wanting to wee all the time but that's been a bit better too. Thanks again for the info. Much appreciated. :-)

Hi Shirley, Thanks for your response. Hydromol is messy, but I don`t care if it helps. My GP said it help prevent E-coli bugs getting from the back to the front, which makes sense. I have tried Vagifem and Ovestin cream in desperation, bu they both made me feel a bit strange. As I take phenytoin and phenobarbitol for epilepsy, I never know if there will be a drug interaction. I`m definitely going to try the Vit E Oil as I can`t see that harming me! I also drink pints and pints of water now, and use D-mannose powder at the slightest sign of a UTI. Like you, I have problems wanting to wee all the time, but often I can`t get going at all! Best of luck :-)

Hi RedJules, I just sent you a message but was then taken to the sign in page and now I am back here, I can't see it anywhere so I will reply to your message, thank you.

I have now sent off to Amazon for some Hydromol Ointment. I don't care if its messy either. That's a small price to pay for relief isn't it. I see the docs point about the E - Coli bugs too. I am still using Vagifem though I admit that for ages they didn't seem to be doing much to help. I told my doc that but she said keep on taking them as they need longer to get into my system. I've not tried Ovestin yet. I see what you mean about drug interactions too. I worry about these things I must admit. The Vit E. oil will help you I'm sure. Wish I had known about these things a year ago! This wanting to wee all the time is so irritating isn't it. It was hard to deal with when I left hospital with my new hip because I had to keep getting up and down to go to the bathroom. In some ways that's good as you have to keep moving, but in others, it was hard work and slow too. But I am fairly quick at getting up now so that's a plus. I must remember the D - Mannose too. I know I have days when I want to wee all the time but I admit its not been sore when I do wee.

Is it just me or do you get the occasional days when your soreness, wanting to wee all the time, isnt just as bad? Then its worse again the next day?

Anyway thank you again for your message. I hope you are doing well and had a good week. :-)

Hi RedJules, Just to say I hope you have had a better day than me! Felt uncomfortable all day again! Wanted to wee all the time too. I don't know about you but it puts me off wanting to go anywhere or do anything. And even if I do go anywhere, I am on the look out for public loos all the time. Interestingly I used another Vagifem tablet last night but I have used them on other occasions (Twice a week) and not felt like this the next day. God knows this is so irritating isn't it. I hope I am not as bad tomorrow. Hope you are doing well too. :-)

Hi Shirley, Yes, I do find that the soreness and wanting to wee fluctuates from day to day. In fact I find it difficult to distinguish between the AV symptoms and the UTI symptoms. Do you sometimes have lower pelvic pressure? I wouldn`t describe it as pain, more like a dragging feeling.

Years ago when this first started I used Replens MD very successfully for a few years, applied vaginally every 3 days. Then I found that using the applicator was triggering infections. As the Vagifem is applied the same way I wonder it it could be doing the same thing to you? I agree with you about not wanting to go anywhere, but if I do go on holiday I make sure I have a supply of antibiotics "just in case".

I had 9 antibiotics last year and this has caused another problem - chronic hives and angiodoema as my immune system is no longer working properly, compounded by the after effects of the cancer treatment and being on anti-convulsants for over 40 years, according to the immunologist. I`m trying very hard to avoid the ABs because of this.

Hope you are feeling much better today. There are much worse things to have, but I do find it depressing as I know it can`t be "cured".
