hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT)

Posted , 9 users are following.

I've just had my 1st session of oxygen therapy as recommended by a lady with MS who has said it has given her some improvement. Has any one else had this therapy and any feedback as its quite expensive @ £120 a session so really wanted some more feedback as to wether I keep going.

Thank you

I can't help you from first-hand experience, it appears to work for some people with MS. Everyone is different so you will need to try hyperbaric therapy out for yourself. I hope you findp a difference.

As someone who tried numerous things you may want to decide on a figure or a treatment plan early into the treatment. I spent a lot of money over the years on alternative treatment - that is the advice I would liked first.

I hope the HBOT works well for you, please keep us informed as to your results.

I did a quick check about this issue on the Internet. Apparently, a recent study in Israel indicated HBO can help with pain. Before that, there was no strong scientific evidence that it could help. Even with the recent study, results would have to be duplicated by others to be considered valid. Also, there are possible side effects, such as pressure injury to ear, collapsed lung, and seizures. It's recommended that you coordinate with a GP before undergoing such therapy. One other issue: this study mentioned that high levels of oxygen could help. So it's unclear to me what level of oxygen would be considered therapeutic.

    Hi Carla,

My daughter had a few sessions of HBOT and it did help with the tiredness, therefore making her feel more sociable. She is severely affected and became too ill to continue. It was reccommended she have two sessions a week, but she was never well enough to manage this. I can't believe it is costing you £120 a session, she only had to pay £10 per session. Also she had to get a letter from her GP to say he agreed or she would not have been accepted .

Through the years we have paid a fortune to alternative therapists who didn't help and often made her worse. What hurt her was that they all promised they could make her better. Everyone is different, and what helps some doesn't help others.Unfortunately, there is no support from any of the doctors and never has been. Hope you have an understandng GP. So Carla, if you can afford it try a few sessions and see if it helps. Good Luck xx

mmm I have goolgled and it said sessions should be between  £40-£50 but there are no other clinics close by. no drs recommendation needed at this clnic. That is what I'm thinking now to do 3 sessions and see how it goes.

When you say £120 per session, do you mean for just one Time? I know that whenever I have been given oxygen, either in ambulance or in hospital, I have always felt that it's just what I need. I'd rather give hbot a go than have a spa day! I think there's one in Manchester but haven't found out where yet. £120 is off putting!

yep £120 per time. doesn't seem to be another clinic near to me that is cheaper, I did google online and it said it should range between £40 - £50 for a session.

    Hi Carla,

forgot to say in my earlier reply that my daughters HBOT was subsidised by the MS Society, that's why it was cheaper.

Hi, I have contacted an MS clinic about an hour and a half away from me and I have an assessment in a couple of weeks and all i need to bring is a copy of my prescriptions and a letter from the DR for 20 session it is £270 slightly cheaper than the £2400 it would have cost at the private clinic

      Hi Carla,

Really pleased you have found an MS clinic where you will get 20 sessions for £270. A big difference from what you were paying. Hope it helps you to feel a good bit better.
