HyperInsulinemia (high insulin levels)

Posted , 2 users are following.

I am 38 now and I have high insulin levels, and barely elevated blood glucose levels. Doctor is treating high insulin with metformin and Trulicity. So far it hasn't had much effect.

When I was 17, I was diagnosed as being hypoglycemic. When I workout I still have to make sure I have some kind of snack with me for if/when blood sugar drops.

Would high insulin be treated differently if I didn't have insulin resistance or elevated blood glucose levels?

Would prolong high levels of insulin cause insulin resistance?

In the run-up to diabetes typically insulin resistance rises, insulin rises, and at some point your pancreas gives up and then you're in trouble! It can be sudden, as I guess it was with me.

How did it come to your doctor's attention that you have high insulin, if you do not also have high blood glucose?

If your BG is not very high, I have to question treatment with metformin and Trulicity.

I take it this is a primary care doctor, not an endocrinologist - I think you might want to talk to a specialist.
