It's a standard dosage, but what do you mean it seems strong? Do you have a blood pressure meter at home, and what kind of numbers does it show? Do you have any other symptoms, good or bad?

There are about four main types of blood pressure meds, this one is a calcium channel blocker, a little different from amlodipine. Actually calcium channel blockers seem to cause somewhat more difficulties than the others - although plenty of people take them for years, and all the types have their pluses and minuses.

Did your doctor also give you anything more directly for the anxiety - or whatever was causing the anxiety, perhaps some life situation, has that gotten better now?

Kim, 5mg of one drug can be completely different from 30mg of another drug! These both look like standard dosages, for what they are.

Meditation worked well for my anxiety, which is/was concurrent with elevated blood pressure. I use the "Calm" app, which provides guided meditation.

The anxiety part of hypertensive episodes is rarely ever discussed, and I have empathy for you. I drink chamomile tea and it helps. Sleep and exercise are also critical.

I can understand how anxious you are. I am 59 and at age 34 felt ill at work, where my BP was found to be 220/115.I wasn,t hospitalised but was off work for 2 weeks but have been on meds ever since. Most of the time my BP is well controlled but last year it shot up again and was high for 6 months. When I was on holiday new year 2018 it was 200/ 105 at one pointt which frightened me. It is back to being more stable now.most of the time I don't think about it. I have had a good life so far. Your BP will settle down soon on the medication, if that medication regime doesn't work for you tell your GP, there are lots of meds, its important you find the right ones for you. People don't understand how frightening those high numbers are, lots of people are treated for high BP but those high numbers are truly frightening but they will come down and your body can take those high numbers for a while without damage to it.

No one med is suitable for all hypertensives.Your doctot should monitor you and change medication if necessary.Monitor your BP at home too a record will be on the memory of your BP monitor which you can show your doctor.

If you are anxious an anxyolitic drug for a short period might be helpful

HI I have often a bp high as yours and have tried about 6 different meds which never agree and have side effects . I would not worry as each med has a different dosage 5 mg to 30 mg does not mean it is 6x stronger. some you take a dose of 25 as a start dose others as little as 2.5 it depends on what kind of med it is . Be glad you were taken off of AMLOPODINE as it has a lot of bad side effects check it out on line. good luck Patricia

on line forums suggest that many people seemed to get symptoms of not being able to walk like MS. MANY OF THESE MEDS CAUSE SWELLING IN THE BODY AND SOME CAUSE DEPRESSION and suicidal thoughts. Some people seem to take these meds and have no side effects but others like myself get lots so in the end I DECIDE not to take but I know that having a raised BP long term is not good. There are some alternative things that one can try but investigate and keep trying different drugs one might suit you.
