hyperthyroidism :(

hello all,

been diagnosed with having hyperthyroidism for the past 6 months now. i've had 4 blood tests since and have been on 40mg carbimazole everyday.

just had another blood test last tuesday and awaiting results, hopefully i get sent to see a specialist as according to latest doc i should have seen one a while back.

my resting heart rate has dropped from 126bpm to 80's bpm which im very happy with but it's the sweating, especially on my back which isn't getting any better sad. really embarassing!

im off to vegas this sunday for 10 days lol, my back should love that!

hopefully my recent bloods are in tomorrow and i can see the doc, is there anything i can ask for that will maybe help with my sweating?

and is there anything i can take to help my eyes? i recently got the nickname bugeyes at work (standard banter) so looking to ask doc for something for this too?

i'm 26 male,

thanks,

evan.

Hi Evan. I'm pleased your blood test results were normal. You'd go to the diabetic clinic as the endo looks after diabetics too. I think we're the poor relations, we don't seem to get a lot of sympathy.

You might be ok when you stop the carbs. I started with Graves forty years ago, took a course of carbs, and was ok until last year, so you could be lucky too. I hope so. I had an ECG as the endo found I had a heart murmur, so it's maybe not something they do routinely. Your heart rate would be increased if your thyroid levels were high.

I haven't noticed a yo-yo effect with my weight. I lost a lot of weight when I was very hyper, and I haven't put any back on. I was skinny to start with. :lol:I lost a lot of muscle tone in my arms and legs, and I had problems getting up and down stairs and getting up from sitting in a chair. My legs are ok now, I suppose because they get plenty of exercise, but my arms are still very thin.

    Take care.

    hello all,

long time and time to update. in november my endo dropped my carb dose to 5mg daily. had a few blood tests since and re visited endo again today.

results in and thyroid is back to square one, if not worse. Endo wants to remove thyroid and has put me on 20mg carbs ed with a blood test again in 6 weeks. when my levels stabalise he hopes to remove it within a month, but must be stable.....

no talk of RAI...he seems to be very keen to remove.

so thats all i know for now, all i can hope is it stabalises in time for my next endo visit. They can then get this bloody thing removed.....

the eyes havent got any worse (fingers crossed) but i now have to re visit the eye man untill its removed.

    the joys of hyperthyroidism.

hope everyone had a brill xmas and new years..

Earlier this year February 2012, I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. I had a terribly fast heart beat, heavy sweating, shaking and a general low feeling and this is why I went in to get checked. 2 weeks after my results came back that I was hyperthyroid and I felt much better after that..my Labs were:

TSH Out of Range(0.00) Reference Values(.4-5.00)

    Free T4 (FT4) Out of Range(27.26) Reference Values(9.03-19.09)

    Total T3 Out of Range(162) Reference Values(58-159)

I was hooked up to an endo(who says I have Grave's Disease) by my GP @ school and she put me on 5mg of Neomercazole to be taken twice a day and 10mg of propanolol(betablocker), since I've been on medication I've felt terrible. Experiencing dizziness, feel like I have to get things done very fast and that I have to walk fast, I always feel like my body is ahead of me, I have terrible hand tremors when I extend them, having terrible head sensations, not headache just some weird head feelings and tingling, pressure and heaviness in my head, and my head feels like I'm out of it, I have hand cramping, neck discomfort, I also have times when I am breatheless, I feel heat inside my body, heat coming from both ears and now its June and I have been on medz from February and I am still having all these symptoms constantly and new ones: weakness in my hands, knees and ankles, there are days I don't know how I walk, and I'm having a general low feeling, no appetite, feeling sick (terribly sick). I did some new labs for my thyroid gland and my TSH is now 1.47, havent did my FT4 or FT3 yet..I did a CT Brain and an ultrasound of my thyroid and all is NORMAL.HELP! Are these ALL really symptoms of Hyperthyroidism ALONE from February till now July!!

Sorry you are not feeling good Evan. I also have this stupid condition. I dont have eye problems but can related all to well on the sweating and the heart issues. It is really tough but hang in there, and dont worry about what people say about your eyes. I am sure you are just as handsome as ever. The best thing I can recommend is getting a small office fan, and wearing like two layers, bringing and extra under layer and changing if you get to sweaty. I have found doctors to not be very helpful personally so all one can really do is adapt and keept a good attitude. Also just laugh at yourself. My big problems with thyroid disease have been intestinal issues tmi I know but i just try to laugh, vary my trips to the restroom and if I get caught to many times, ill just joke about having an important appointment. People rarely make fun of people who tease themselves. smile

    Wishing you well!
