Hyperthyroidism and exercise

I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and Grave's Disease six years ago and   my blood results are now back in the normal range.  However since my diagnosis I cannot exercise without it not affecting my heart.  My heart rate remains elevated after exercise and  the more I exercise worse I feel.  I am woken every night with my heart racing.  Has anyone else experienced this?

My heart races at different times and especially with exercise however I do it anyway! It's been my way of life for years, I can't stop , I do slow down to get my heart rate lower and I wear a heart monitor for exercise to see where it's falling!

My heart races also. Some days are better then others. My doctor gives me Xanax for anxiety attacks but I also notice that it slowers my heart rate also. I do not take it all the time - three times since I've been diagnosed in 2010 and I am on a very small dosage but it does help. Something else that seems to help is Vitamin D.

If your heart is racing even at rest you need to have a word with your doctor. Mine was doing this my pulse ait rest was 170 most of the time, which is pretty draining when your heart's going mad. I am now on Beta Blockers - Bisoprodol which has dramatically reduced my pulse down to 70/80 at rest. I still have a problem with excercising so my Dr is referring me to a respiratory specialist. I would definately go see your Dr.

Wow, when i first was diagnose, i had to stop exercising. After my hormones got stabalize, i can exercise like normal, and my heart goes up and comes back down. I've had Graves for 2ys now....tell ur doctor. Make sure you eat good before you start excersing, and eat like 1-2 hrs before you start. Your body need to be fuel, i know if i don't or I eat something like a muffin, it makes me tired easily, sugar is not good before exercing, eat somthing like an egg and wheat english muffin w/tomato and advocado.....hopes this helps
