Hi Chen I am sorry to hear about the problem. A fellow sufferer I have noticed over the years that apart from food issues setting off an attack any emotional upset can also trigger it. Doctors have never offered me much of a solution but one of the answers I got to my post talked about a new diet which I think is worth a try. I have never considered Hypnosis but I think it would be worth a try? Good luck!! Perhaps you would consider sharing the results with us in the future>

      Hey amandahc,

    Hi Chen,

I've never had it myself. But nothing has helped me but a gel which I take every day. It's all aloe Vera based so it's natural. It's taken about 2 weeks to notice a difference but it has I haven't had signs since and I'm just going toilet like a normal person!

Thank you Chloe I will have to look into this. My problem is I am quite an outgoing person (well use to be) love to go out for a few drinks with my friends to you still drink alcohol or have you stopped drinking it?

Get real Chen09   You say this is ruining your life but you would prefer to drink alcohol and sit on the toilet     Must be a fun life its ruining.

I think the diet referred to above is probably the FODMAP diet developed by the Monash University for people really suffering from ibs.   It works in many cases but not all.

There are two phases in the diet.  The first is to exclude almost everything that might cause your problem.   This lasts from 6 to 12 weeks.   The second phase is to reintroduce foods to see what causes you problems and what foods you can continue to eat for ever.   If you are lucky you might find you are only a few foods to be excluded.   If you are not lucky you might find many foods you cant eat.   As far as I know you can't cure the intolerance so you have to live with a limited diet.   Thats a pain but its probably better than the alternative.

If you try it be fastidious during the first phase and stay strictly on the diet.   With some things one mouthful is enough to hide any benefit.

In mny own case beer is out because of the gluten or some other wheat product but I can drink a moderate amount of rum and coke.   I avoid alcohol in general because I want to avoid stomache troubles.

I have lived with this condition for the past 52 years or since the age of around 19. The medication called colofac has save my life during this period because as soon as I felt the first twinges I took it and within five minutes or so I was alright. I have never taken it on a regular basis however, only as required. I have always drunk in moderation an occasional glass of wine or gin/tonic simply because alcohol makes me sleepy! Almost any type of food, on occasions, has caused me problems, including eggs and chocolate, Bread was one of the biggest culprits but not cakes! And so I wondered about yeast and so it goes on. I was a teacher before I retired and dreaded eating either breakfast or lunch for fear of any consequences, but eventually I learned what I could eat. One thing definitely has a tremendous impact as I said,,, stress. Better to fast than to put yourself through all the concerns of problems on a night out or in an important meeting.
