I would expect by now that your son has had his surgery. I understand how you feel, both my sons aged 2 and 6 have had the condition and have had their ops. They are fine and know nothing about it. It is very daunting when you have to deal with the catheter but you will find your hospital will be very supportive and will explain how to change nappies etc. I am so pleased there are sites like this, when my first son was diagnosed I too was very shocked, a first time mum and I had never heard of hypospadias. I wasn't a user of a pc at the time so felt very alone. To say the condition is quite common in boys is the absolute truth, I met a mum who I didn't know in the park, who explained to me that her son had the condition, she was so pleased that I could put her mind at ease. We are not alone! Good luck to you

Hi my 13 month old son also has a mild case and is having his op on the 4th of september i am so worried about him being put out and also the consultant told us he would have a catheter in for 7 to 10 days after which is going to be a nightmare.

I presume that your son might have had the op so hoping it all went well for you.

In response to both to you and the last lady - my son is 27 months and has had his first corrective surgery at 6 months and second at 19 months.

As for catheter - it is actually a stent so much smaller and does not go inside the bladder which stops the irritation. The painkillers (paracetamol and neurofen) manage the pain really well, and the catheter is not as bad once you get hang of it. Kids being in nappies helps loads and you use two nappies at the same time. Also have been told that the risk of anaestetic is that of an adult person past 6months of age. Also my son they used sleeping gas and then local lumbar block (a bit like an epidural) which is far kinder & they recover quicker after.

Good luck and I hope it all goes well for you - do feel free to ask anything, will try to check the site at some point.
