Hysterectomy 3 yeas ago , now prolapsed bladder.

Hi , am new to this forum but just wanted to say abit about my story .

I underwent a vaginal hysterectomy in April 2013 due to a stage 3 prolapsed uterus , operation went well and the recovery wasn't too bad . In my leaving the hospital my consultant said that I had also had a slight bladder prolapse , he said that he had stitched it back into place , he said I also had a slight rectocele but he hadnt touched it as wasn't too bad . Anyway over the past few years I have felt the old familiar feelings , heaviness in lower area, back pain, pulling pains , running to the toilet every two mins .... Forgot to add I also got diagnosed win overactive bladder and sensitive bladder so put abit of the toilet trips to that. We all know when something isn't right , I could literally see a ball at the opening down here ( sorry tmi) and felt like I was having to keep pushing it back in . Sex life is non existent ... I don't get pleasure like I did before my hystectomy, so my relationship with the hubby is abit strained . I took a trip to my doctors who confirmed a prolapse , didn't have to do an internal as he could just see it there. Waited 3 weeks to go see gynocologist , who confirmed it was a stage 3 prolapse , she is lovely and really thorough.... Gave me a list of options . Wait a few years and then have surgery ( am 42 btw) but doesn't recommend as it is stage 3 already , use a peasant , again doesn't recommend because I have no womb am most probs would t hold in place anyway, have surgery with mesh to hold back in , told her there and then that wasn't any option for me , no way am I going near mesh !!! Too many horror stories, so I have opted for the operation putting it back in place with my own tissues ... She has also given me tablets for the bladder issues and estrogen cream to insert 2x a week leading up to surgery. Now just sitting right and waiting for my letter with a date for operation , sorry the post is long winded , not many ppl understand so wanted to join somewhere x

Hello sarah. I think you're right to have surgery and the is a lot if support and good advice here on this forum. You no doubt have read a lot of the posts. I do want to mention however about mesh that is used and clarify some points because there are ladies on this forum who have had mesh used in their surgery. Most of the problems with mesh occurred in the USA because the surgery wasn't regulated like it is here in the UK. Surgeons who weren't trained to use the mesh were operating on ladies a lot of whom now are taking legal action against their surgeons. In the UK, England and Wales in particular we are very lucky in that urogynaecologists  (not gynaecologists) are using the mesh under strict controlled conditions and they are answerable to the Department of Health. The problems with mesh is extremely rare because if there were problems the Dept of Health would ban the use of it. We are fortunate in that we have an excellent NHS which does safeguard against any problems. I just felt it important to mention this as I would hate any woman who had mesh used to repair her prolapse start to panic. You can't believe everything you read on the internet.

Thankyou for your matron, and thankyou for your input about the mesh , sorry maybe wasn't the best wording to use in my first post . I would hate for anyone to worry after having it in their surgery by reading about my fears on it , my CJ Aymara t mentioned if we used mesh that j wouldn't have another prolapse but if we used my own tissue then I would be looking at another prolapse 10 down the line maybe .... Maybe need to have another discussion regarding mesh with her ..... My apologies if anyone does get offended by my post , that wasn't my intention

I don't think anyone would be offended sarah and yes mesh is hopefully a more permanent solution. All doctors sign the Hippocratic Oath promising to do no harm. I think that says it all really.

Hi sarah. There are some very good tablets on the market now. Don't worry about letting your doctor know if these aren't working because when you find the right one it will make such a difference.

Thankyou Helen and so good to hear you are doing well! It must be so hard tho with an 8 month old in tow , am lucky as my children have grown up , the youngest being 11 , although I have got 2 grandsons . Im assuming my op and recovery are going to be pretty much the same as when I had my hysterectomy ,if I remember correctly I had trouble with constipation after that , these tablets am on now are making me abit constipated which is doing the prolapse no good at all !! Am quite concerned I may have a rectocele aswell as keep getting a lot of pain in the back area ,like a really heavy feeling , very strange ... Take care
