Hysterectomy

I'm gowned up and ready for surgery for vag hysterectomy anteria + poss posteria repair + cystocle. Surgeon been and said she might not do hysterectomy if not causing the prolapse. I'm in shock that was main thing coming in for. And worried will prolapse again and end up coming back in just want all doing now. Anyone else had this?

I too went in expecting hysterectomy and ended up having A&P repairs done.I'd built myself up expecting hysterectomy but after speaking to surgeon and hearing his reasons why he didnt do it , made sense! I'm almost 50, had 2 kids, natural childbirths so was quite content to say goodbye to all those bits no longer needed 😊 But better to get rid of polapses than have un-necessary surgery.  Recovery time same however, if not longer!!

I appreciate that it is probably unsettling to be all ready to go and then hear this however I am guessing (and matron would know better) that sometimes it is easier to see what is actually going on once they are in there. Once they can see how everything is positioned (for want of a better word) they will have a better feel for what actually needs to be done. I guess with this kind of surgery although everyone has a prolapse the exact anatomy will vary a lot from lady to lady.

Whatever the end result I hope everything goes well today and wishing you a good recovery. Take it easy and come back afterwards and let us know how you are doing.

    Good luck Lauday,

Whatever they decide, I'm sure they probably know best, your are in the best hands.

I knew I needed a hysterectomy primarily as I had a severe uterine prolapse/procidentia.  The surgeon also thought I needed anterior repair but was not sure about posterior repair.  They said they could not tell exactly what was needed until they started surgery so I guess this is quite common.

They also told me I may need a hysterectomy but I didn't...Good luck with everything !

Hi all thanks for replies. Had surgery havn't seen a doc but nurse tried to read notes sounds like ive had vaginal hysterectomy and that's all i'm quite surprised the consultant at last clinic said most certain anteria repair so don't know why not done didn't want unessary surgery but vagina was quite loose and thought that would rectify it. Won't see a doc till tomorrow. Had lot of pain nausea. Thanks for ur thoughts. Confused! X

Sorry to hear your not getting home , but I think it is usual to be in at least 2 nights.

Make the most of the rest, and best to take any painkillers so you get a good sleep.

Hopefully you will get home tomorrow!

      Take care

Best of luck on your recovery. I too didn't find out till when you did that my Surgeon had decided he may not do posterior repair as well as anterior as we had discussed when deciding on surgery. I was so surprised that I didn't stand up firmer & say I ain't coming back a second time!! His reason was I did have posterior prolapse as well as cystocoele (anterior prolapse) but as I didn't yet have symptoms of posterior one that he probably will leave it. And 2nd excuse as doing both can make "you too tight"!! Well, in fact, we never discussed any symptoms of posterior as anterior was my biggest worry. He never asked so I hadn't told him. So now I face having to go back sometime for posterior repair!! Annoying! When you have both I did wonder exactly which symptoms were from which & Im sure they overlap as they right next to each other. My stress incontinence is gone since anterior repair but other constantly annoying symptoms are still there! I thought maybe most vag troubles might get sorted by anterior repair, but nope, not the case. 6mths on & it is hard to front up to appointment & suggest going through it all again!!

Thank you. Gosh what a nuisance for you. Finally spoke to a doctor earlier, not one who done surgery as had to be at ither hospital. He said I only needed uterus removed as that was causing prolapse nothing else needed doing when doc at clinic convinced I needed anteria repair. Just hope don't need doing further along. Best thing is feeling of bulge has gone hopefully feel benefit when back on feet properly. Kept me in another night very weak and shaky on standing xx

That's great Lauday, that you only needed uterus removed, that must mean that your pelvic walls, ligaments and muscles are strong and not kneeding repaired.

You're doing really well, remember to get plenty rest once home and take the time you need to recovery . Don't be doing anything for a good few weeks.
