hi, this question is for my mom. Shes 55 years old and post menopause, last week she had a hysterectomy to get her ovaries/uterus/fallopian tubes removed, fast forward 1 week later and she is worried because she said she keeps leaking. she said it feels watery and its a light brown color (probably blood) and this happens many times throughout the day.

she is going to contact a doctor but in the mean time is there any answers anyone can give? shes really worried she will need surgery again. thank you.

Hi there, While it is always wise if you are worried to contact your doctor for these things, about a week post op you can lose what is called 'pooled' blood basically it has been sitting inside since the op and when it is expelled it won't be red but brown just as you describe it, i remember it happened to me around the 1 week mark, but please tell your mum to talk to her doctor as well, but I am sure it is normal.

    Hi

Firstly like to say how lovely it sounds like you are looking after your mum. Did your mum have a vaginal hysterectomy or abdominal? It is very early days and what your mum is going through is normal.Shes had lots of internal stitches and all her insides have been moved around. This will settle down but if it doesn't and shes experiencing abnormal pain and the discharge is very smelly, then I would suggest a call to the doctor for reassurance.

    Take care
