Hysterectomy has made my anxiety worse

Hi Ladies,
I have posted before about my recovery journey regarding my full abdominal hysterectomy. At the risk of sounding really lame, it's week 11 and I'm still struggling physically and mentally. My anxiety levels have been steadily rising over the past few weeks. It has given me an awful bout of health anxiety. My body just doesn't feel right. I'm using HRT gel but as yet it has had little effect.
Can any of you relate to this phase in your recovery? I just need to know that it's not just my overactive mind and that what I'm experiencing is 'normal' in this recovery process.
Thanks in advance 😊

Hi Lorrie, thanks for your reply. I have had similar feelings about the op in terms of regret. But it's done and we just have to try our best to work out our recovery. Hopefully things will settle down for both of us soon 😊

hi Julie 11 weeks is still early days I'm 5 months on and still have bad days physically and mentally I've tried a herbal remedy called chaste berry which helped a little with hormone imbalance but still there are days when it gets you down. It's a big shock to the system. keep mending and try not to be too hard on yourself.

Hi Julie
I had my TAH 13 weeks ago and I'm still not 100%. My stomach is still swollen and painful if I do too much lifting. It feels like I'm carrying a bowling ball around with me a lot of the time especially late in the day.
I'm on blood pressure tablets, sertraline and HRT but still struggling with anxiety. Some days I have to make myself leave the house.
I had everything removed including my cervix so not suffering as I was the menopause symptoms.
You've got to be patient and remember your body has been through a massive trauma. We will come through the other side eventually its just going to take time. Don't be hard on yourself and try to rush recovery, you're doing amazing x The ladies on this forum are an amazing help, I don't know what I would have done without their advice and support xx

Hi Julie. Thanks for starting this post. I am 9 weeks post op after a laparoscopic hysterectomy. Everything taken except for one ovary. With the pain I've been dealing with before surgery and the 3 week periods, my anxiety levels were through the roof having panic attacks often.
I thought surgery would cure that. Yes, the period pain is gone but now having all other sorts of pain (neck, back, jaw pain - all from probably sleeping in same position, not being able to exercise, and working from home in a very non ergonomic posture). The pain has continued to make me anxious and I do feel a bit like I've become a hypochondriac health wise but based on what other women are writing, this is all probably somewhat... "normal" just having shock to our bodies and of course it affecting us emotionally as well.
This is so nice to know we are not alone because many others just don't understand. My husband is very patient and caring but sometimes he just thinks I'm going crazy. I'm glad to know I am not alone. Thank you again!

Hi k
this is definitely the hardest thing I've had to face total hysterectomy Im over 5 months on and still struggling it's like one step forward and 2 back at times I'm glad you mentioned jaw pain I've had that too with back ache and sciatica. I keep trying to do gentle stretches but that can make tummy and scar pain bad. It's a vicious circle some times. thank God for this site to ease the worries. Gently does it. good look 🌞
