hysterectomy or not?

I'm new to this page. I've had a few probs since having my child who's now 7yrs old. I had prolapse repair and bladder repair done. I'm now having problems with bleeding pretty much 3 weeks out of 4 for almost a year now. I've tried the coil, the pill and depo jag but nothing seems to help. At my last gynae visit following a large ovarian cyst op it was discussed that I should consider either an ablation or hysterectomy. My gynae would prefer to do the hysterectomy as I have also have issues with cervix changes and the ablation won't help this.

I really don't know what to do. I'm scared about both procedures

Can anybody give me some advice.

I've spoken to secretary and an app will be arranged in the next couple of weeks. From speaking to my husband I think the best option is to have the hysterectomy. Thanks everyone for your replies

Honestly don't blame you, it saves having 2 operations in the long run. Good luck

I've now had my consultation and have decided to go ahead with hysterectomy. My ovaries will be left behind unless there are cysts etc and at that point they will be removed. I am very nervous about it but will be glad when it's all over. Thank you all for your advice X

At least you have answers now and know what lies ahead. I ve just had my date for the op, Good Friday 3rd April! Absolutely dreading it, it's not the op I m worried about it's the recovery that's making me feel apprehensive. I m sure you must be feeling relieved that you know what's coming but at the same time not looking forward to it. Good luck x

Hi, the date I am looking at is 8th April. What's worrying me the most is the recovery like yourself. At least we are both getting done around the same time. And can chat about it during our recoveries. Good luck xxx

Hi it's entirely up to you and can only be your decision. I had an ablation 2 years ago for the same reason which was still a few weeks recovery as I ended up being anaemic but it worked great for the first year no bleeding once I'd healed. However the following year it's started again and now I'm back where I started and having a total abdominal hysterectomy on Saturday. If I knew that the ablation would only last a year I wouldn't of gone through that to have this on Sat aswell.
