I'm not sure whether to have the endometrial resection, taking the lining of the womb away or a vaginal hysterectomy. I have been sufferings with really heavy irregular periods for a long while & they are wearing me out. I'm in pains aswell. Consultant has given me the choice. I'm 51) &. I havnt got a clue which procedue to go for. Anyone out there had any of these procedures done. I welcome any advice comments feedback ?

Thanks

    Hi Louise,

I am nearly 51 and I'm having a total hysterectomy in two weeks time.  I have a cyst which they aren't 100% sure about so they are removing everything at the same time which I'm happy about as there is less to worry about then lol   I'm even going to ask if he can remove my appendix if he has time and maybe a tummy tuck whilst he's there lol   I would go for total hysterectomy if I was you, at least you won't have to suffer with heavy painful periods any more xx

Hi louise im 37 and was suffering the same as you. After numerous types of medication etc i was offered both and chose the vaginal hystorectomy as couldnt take any more bleeding as i constantly bled no matter what they gave me. I am 4 weeks post operation and while it has been hard and i have encountered a few problems as i dont take well to medication and this made me very sick along with constipatiom which has put my tummy under immense pressure which caused me to start bleeding 8 day after the operation and i have undergone more test etc now its easing lots and i am feeling much better and hopefully another couple of weeks i will be back at work and have  new lease of life both physicaly emotionally and obviously in my personal life. Only you cam make the choice. Just know that although u wont have scars outside its still a major operation. Do what is best for you huni xxx good luck

      Hi Debbie

ive decided to have the endometrial resection as I would have had to wait for the hysterectomy and since taking Zoladex I'm constantly bleeding. I just need can't take anymore  waiting. I'm going in tommorow for the op . I hope this works

    Hi Mel,

No I can't have keyhole because I had my left ovary out 23 years ago after getting a large cyst when I was pregnant with my first baby and I think he mentioned something about scar tissue.  I might be having two cuts depending what he thinks the little dark area on my cyst is so he said he might do a biopsy of the fat surrounding the womb just to make sure it's okay.

I have to to go for a final blood test tomorrow so that they can match my blood if I need a transfusion or anything and then it's the big day on Monday eekeek

Yes it would be great to follow each other's op and recovery, will keep you informed on how it goes.   I'm first one in the theatre on Monday so at least I should be feeling a bit better by night time hopefully. lol
