I always look ill, and never feel 100%

Hi all. I am a very pale guy, bht i never used to be but ive been pale for about 7 years so i never really thought much about it. I changed my job a year ago from something pretty easy going to something alot more challenging and further from home.

I get so many different "symptoms" that i try to put down to various things but i cant help but feel other people dont get the same feelings i do. For example, if i feel spaced out i put it down to dehydration although i would have drank at least 1.5L of water that day.

Im always extremely pale, i had dark rings around my eyes, dry skin, glassy eyes and i just dont look healthy at all.

I get facial twitches, pains in almost all of my body in some way or another, occasional difficulty breathing, spaciness, feeling as though everything isnt real, fatigue, headaches, pressure in one side of my head alot, jaw pain and just so many other things i cant even think of right now.

Like i said i put it down to things like not enough sleep, physical activity at work, dehydration, not eating healthy enough but when i try to chsnge these things i never seem to look or feel any different.

Is this just all natural? Is it not? Im so confused and i just dont know what to do.

Thanks for reading

    Hi JayDee

It sounds like health anxiety. Anxiety can cause inflammation so that could explain your aches and pains everywhere and the other symptoms you describe.

Have you had a routine blood check done? If not, I think this is the first step to take. Once you know everything is ok it could help you to stop worrying about your health.

    Are you on any meds?

Ive had a blood test about 8 months ago and it was fine. Im on no meds.

I just dont get why i physicslly look so ill although i take alot of steps to stop it from happening yano?

Well if I were you, I would go back to my GP and explain to him how you feel about your appearance and for peace of mind get another full blood check done. You seem to be stressing yourself out about the way you look, maybe only you are seeing it, he may be able to offer you some reassurance and make some recommendations for you.

If you are both satisfied that it is an anxiety issue you can discuss ways of dealing with it.

Unlike you, I take medication for my anxiety. If you choose to go down this route it will probably help you like it did me, but it is not easy coming off head meds.

Sleep is a big issue I know, try to avoid stimulants before bedtime such as caffeine, sugary foods. Magnesium is good to help you sleep, if you don't like taking supplements try eating foods high in magnesium such as green vegetables, walnuts, bananas, look these up. Dark chocolate is also high in magnesium, try a couple of squares of that at night or a cup of cocoa. Magnesium is also good for anxiety. Chamomile tea is another that helps you relax.

If you are anything like I was I'd Google my symptoms and come up with all sorts of diagnosis, don't do that, it will make you a hundred times worse.

I know it's not easy but you have to take control of anxiety, accept that it is only anxiety. It will play tricks on your mind. Try to focus on today, not yesterday or tomorrow. Maintain a healthy lifestyle, diet, exercise, socialise and try to stop worrying.

      Best wishes

Thanks, I managed to get out of the googling symptoms a long timr ago fortunatly 😂 but none the less i agree that i am focusing on my 'symptoms' too much.

I was offered meds but refused them as I feel/felt like i could do it myself. Still consider them but like you said once you take them its a whole new step.

Thank you though for such a long and detailed reply. I'll try your suggestions with magnesium etc and see how it goes. Thanks alot!

      I.  Feel the same way. I look tired, dark circles under the eyes, low energy and mine is basically from years and years of high stress and anxiety. It really takes a toll on the body and mind! I started exercising regularly and eating healthy, staying away from sugars .   I’m hoping that helps. But think if you have been stressed for a long time because that can definitely cause many many symptoms and make us look extremely tired or ill. Get another check up with your doctor and sometimes counseling can help.

i think you are more concern about the illness than getting yourself recovered , in my opinion you just need proper nutrition and workout schedule

Nutrition is something i definitly need to get behind, but i am the fussiest eater i know so its really quite hard for me hahah. I have tried

Workout-wise, being a mechanical engineer i tend to have very rigourous physical activity everyday without even realising it. Although that isnt exactly a workout, it leaves me too tired and achy to go to the gym or anything after work. I suppose a jog every night could go well and see what happens. Thank you 😊
