Hi,I am 22 and diagnosed with c/s a year ago, been to a doctor many times, prescribes me a different NS-AID everytime ,but I avoid taking drugs. Been on a month long course of piroxicam ,and it seemed like it did magic ,I was perfectly normal for 3 months offcourse with the neck exercises on the side.but now somehow my neck pain has recurred,I can't even lift my handbag now without stressing my upper arms, what do i do? Is my neckpain going to be there forever.medicines only give me temporary relief,I wake up good in the morning but as the day progresses it only gets worse.

Hi I used for the first time last night two rolled up towels either side of my pillow (underneath sticking out at the end) the reason for me using this is as I sleep on my side there's a gap between neck and shoulders that the pillow creates and it puts a lot of stress on my neck through the night.Use the bottom of the towel to cover the gap and you might get some much needed relief. Also go to your GP and ask for physio, which will help but will take time

So sorry to hear that you have Spondy. at such a young age. I got it after an accident at work caused trauma to my neck; 5th and 6th vertebrae. I got a lot of support from here initially; it happened 2.5 years ago. I am curious as to the cause of your neck problem; was it an accident or something else? I am trying to get compensation for my injury as it has been life changing for me! Don't know if I will be successful as the incident was not straightforward like 'whiplash' for example.

It took me ages and lots of badgering to get the right meds. for me. I had to threaten the GP with my MP to get an appointment to see and orthopaedic specialist, who prescribed Pregabalin. It 'worked' for me in so far as it took away the terrible pain that I was experiencing in both my neck and right arm. GP explained that it works by telling the brain that there is no trapped nerve, which is what your 'tingling' might be. There is a 50/50 chance it does not work once you come off the meds. but thank God in my case it did. I was on them for about 8 months; I had to be weaned off them but had no lasting effects. I too hate taking medication. I got a great orthopaedic pillow from Dunelm Mill but recently I went to get another and they had none. the advice from 'anamta87673' is good re: towels. Physio. told me to roll towels up and put them in the bottom of my pillow to support the neck when lying on the side or back. It really works and I still do it when I have a flare-up.

I am off sick at the moment with suspected Fibromyalgia, which is just awful and CAN be caused by accident/trauma, so I am pretty sure it is related to my neck injury. Looking back over the last few years I can see that my neck 'symptoms' were 'morphing' into something else; Fibromyalgia. I would like to hear of any other suffers that can relate FM to Spondylosis/neck trauma?

I wish you well and that you get the support you need; change GP's if necessary!! Remember I had to use 'threats of contacting my local MP to get access to an orthopaedic consultant!! I don't know if I could have done that at 22!! I also did change GP practices due to suspected FM and thank God I did as the new GP has a lot of experience of it and has, after 3 months of getting nowhere and 3 lots of meds. that did NOTHING, I am responding well to my new meds. - Gabapentin. I know Spondy. suffers have also taken this. Also what I have discovered is not all meds. suit everyone; you may have to 'suck it and see' as they say.

GOOD LUCK AND KEEP POSTING ON HERE IF YOU NEED SUPPORT!!!

Have you tried tens machines, massage, saunas, acupuncture, Botox injections? To name a few, there are also some excellent compression shirts that help enormously. Physio tells me to forget about my arm muscles and concentrate on core muscles

No,I went to the doctor ,he told me my case has not advanced so much so I don't need physio ,regular cervical exercises would do.and they do seem to help but I still have frequent neck muscle pains/ spasms,I don't know what to do about them,it has become a daily thing now, soemtimes wearing a soft collar helps and sometimes it doesn't, sad((
