Hi,I am 22 and diagnosed with c/s a year ago, been to a doctor many times, prescribes me a different NS-AID everytime ,but I avoid taking drugs. Been on a month long course of piroxicam ,and it seemed like it did magic ,I was perfectly normal for 3 months offcourse with the neck exercises on the side.but now somehow my neck pain has recurred,I can't even lift my handbag now without stressing my upper arms, what do i do? Is my neckpain going to be there forever.medicines only give me temporary relief,I wake up good in the morning but as the day progresses it only gets worse.

It took me ages and lots of badgering to get the right meds. for me. I had to threaten the GP with my MP to get an appointment to see and orthopaedic specialist, who prescribed Pregabalin. It 'worked' for me in so far as it took away the terrible pain that I was experiencing in both my neck and right arm. GP explained that it works by telling the brain that there is no trapped nerve, which is what your 'tingling' might be. There is a 50/50 chance it does not work once you come off the meds. but thank God in my case it did. I was on them for about 8 months; I had to be weaned off them but had no lasting effects. I too hate taking medication. I got a great orthopaedic pillow from Dunelm Mill but recently I went to get another and they had none. the advice from 'anamta87673' is good re: towels. Physio. told me to roll towels up and put them in the bottom of my pillow to support the neck when lying on the side or back. It really works and I still do it when I have a flare-up.
I am off sick at the moment with suspected Fibromyalgia, which is just awful and CAN be caused by accident/trauma, so I am pretty sure it is related to my neck injury. Looking back over the last few years I can see that my neck 'symptoms' were 'morphing' into something else; Fibromyalgia. I would like to hear of any other suffers that can relate FM to Spondylosis/neck trauma?
I wish you well and that you get the support you need; change GP's if necessary!! Remember I had to use 'threats of contacting my local MP to get access to an orthopaedic consultant!! I don't know if I could have done that at 22!! I also did change GP practices due to suspected FM and thank God I did as the new GP has a lot of experience of it and has, after 3 months of getting nowhere and 3 lots of meds. that did NOTHING, I am responding well to my new meds. - Gabapentin. I know Spondy. suffers have also taken this. Also what I have discovered is not all meds. suit everyone; you may have to 'suck it and see' as they say.
GOOD LUCK AND KEEP POSTING ON HERE IF YOU NEED SUPPORT!!!
