I am 37, and am plagued by spider bites. My skin is very acidic, and will react with any metallic jewellery, or spectacle frames etc. Perfume does not react well either, seeming to break down into a chemical smell very quickly. Insects do not bite me, but spiders are attracted somehow. I am allergic to their bites, and the bite site will swell up red, with a poisonous pus build up under the skin, sometimes with a bruise around the red lump. Antihistimines are a great help, but the first 24 to 36 hours are very painful. After 3 or 4 days the swelling goes, but I am left with a deep red blotch which may take a month or more to go. I currently have @20 to 50 bites. I am convinced that my skin type attracts the spiders. I love gardening and being outdoors, but have to wear wellington boots and plastic waterproof trousers. The spiders will bite me wherever they can.

This is interesting as I am prone to bites and my skin also reacts with jewellery.

Hi, Im currently suffering with really bad excema. Ive recently had a patch test and seem allergic to various metals and chemicals.

My skin does tend to smell metallic and chemical which is very of putting to me but obviously not to our little (or big) 8 legged friends.

I have approximately 15 bites on my legs (the side of my shins)and forearms (by the elbows). They seem to be in clusters of 3 to 4 bites in different areas.

My arms hurt when rested upon a table due to the red swelling and sleeping on my side can cause uncomfort due to my legs.

Since the bites have occured my skin has become more itchy and irritated generally all over.

I never knew that the Uks residential spiders could bite.

Uk siders certainly can bite as i have just been woken by 1 biting me. I felt it still crawling on me and pulled it off while still half asleep. It looks smalish and brown like a young house spider ( hard to tell when its curled up and misssing 2 legs!!)
