I am 46, I have suffered with urge incontinece for 20 years. It is becoming debilitating and I find it incredible that no medical procedure can help me. I have been referred to a urologist. I have undertaken pelvic exercises and elctrode stimulation. These have not improved my condition. It is very depressing at my age to be in the position. I do not know what the future holds.

Sadly urologists are not miricle workers. I hoped for a cure for my incontinence when I first saw the urologist but sadly it was not to be. I have diabetic related nerve damage in the area around my bladder control mechanism and have little feeling in that area. This cannot be reversed. My urologist referd me to the continencenurse as it was now a case of managing the problem. I have had to get used to wearing protection all the time which I have now accepted. Managed properly incontinence is a minor hindrance not a big problem. I would rather be incontinent than have many other complaints. With a little forthought it hasn't stopped me enjoying life and I still do all the things I always have.

I have just read your post on incontinence. Last yr I started wetting myself during the night, this was followed by episodes during the day. Eventually I went to see the Dr and I have been referred to the Urologly nurse. At the start I thought my world had collapsed, however I am learning to deal with the situation and finding ways of managing the problem.

a combination of self catheterisation during the day, coupled with wearing pads through night has got my situation under control, well most of the time!!!!!!!!

You soon realise with a bit of forward planning incontinence really is not a big problem.
