I know many men that have dropped dead jogging. I don't get it, people pounding the hard surface destroying their joints and putting the heart under strain. We don't hunt animals anymore, we stopped chasing antelope thousands of years ago. My theory, no offence meant.

Swimming is good too, no impact on your skeleton and you won't be raising your heartbeat too high like with jogging. Running has too many demands on your body at our age. I'm 45 Good luck.

It sounds as though you need another talk with your GP. He perhaps could explain what he means by a light strain on one part of the heart. If he didnt, he should give you advice as to safe exercise. Its good you had an ECG, I wonder if you have been refered to a cardiologist, if not, then it sounds as if your GP isnt over concerned. I agree with Walter as regards the jogging. I just dont feel its a safe form of exercise for men over 40, walking would be very beneficial without the risks. Hope you get some answers and reassurance from your doctor.

      Thanks Bess.

GP precribed gastric medicine, if situation doesn't change then asked me go for echo test. Now I feel the burp is reducing and pain as well except slight pain at back of the chest. Shall I go for echo test?

I'm pleased the gastric medicine is helping. I would just wait and see how you go, with perhaps making sure there is a time lapse between eating and exercise. If you need to go for an echo, well, you've nothing to lose, it doesnt take long and it would give you peace of mind. Sounds though as though you might be on the right track with the gastric medicine. All the best.

Hi, I'm a 58 year old male. 3 years ago I was mowing the back lawn and got seriously out of breath. My wife said I was unfit and to join a gym, but I went to my local doctor instead. He did an ECG (lying down) which was normal, but unconvinced he sent me off to do a stress test, on a walking machine wired up to the ECG. Results were horrible, so they sent me off for an Angiogram. They put a small camera in at the wrist or thigh and have alook into the heart. Turns out I had 2 arteries 70% blocked and one at 95%, a walking talking heart attack just waiting to happen. I had a triple bypass in November 2011. I have since lost weight, modified my diet and lifestyle and hope to live for many more years.

I would suggest you visit your doctor and INSIST on the stress test as a first option. If yoy pass that with flying colours, you can rest easy knowing that your heart is not the issue. It is a non invasive test, just 10 minutes on a walking machine wired up to an ECG. Never trust the ordinary sitting or lying down ones!

You can get false positives on stress tests. I've had three in 21 years with angiograms showing my arteries to be clear.
