I am 57 and have just stopped taking HRT after 7 years and am plagued with hot flushes and pins and needles in the fingers. I can find plenty of guidance on the menopause and why to/ not to use HRT, but nothing offering information on what happens when you stop HRT! Help!

I had a total hysterectomy in 2006 and was on HRT pills 6 years. Life was great. Told I had to wean myself off due to cancer risk. I did over 6 months. Now, 6 years later. Hot flashes still prevalent and worse than ever...sleep? What is that? I'm trying to see if I can take again. This is ridiculous for menopause to last 10+ years. I'm over it

I am 61 3rd time trying to go off HRT. After reading these posts I am going right back on it. My mamo was clean and so was my physical. I have had really good luck with compounded HRT. You just have to find a local dr. that will prescribe it for you. I have been off this time for 2 months and can't bear the night sweats/ then cold from flipping off the covers- I am a mess. The day hot flashes are increasing not decreasing. Life is too short to be miserable and not get good rest.

Light at the end of the tunnel?I was on HRT combined patch for 13 years. After 3 attempts at coming off have now succeeded but my doctor said could go back on anytime I wanted and that she had a patient in her 80s that used to come off for a while and then go back on.

I still get hot sometimes but it isn't that bad.I came off gradually and increased soya in my diet.I went on it when I was 50 and started coming off it when I was 60 but couldn't do it while I was still working as needed to sleep well to cope with the job.Now I am retired and feel fine.Sometimes take a vitamin supplement  to help me sleep well plus try not to drink too much wine which brings on a hot flush.Good luck whatever you decide. It has been very helpful to know I can take again if I need to and may do much later if my bones need strenghtening in old age.

I came off hrt in 2010 since then I have been suffering from

awful night sweats and daytime sweats too, sleeplessness

irritable very dry skin hair thinning weeping at the drop of a hat

for no reason whatsoever. After almost 6 years of suffering I've decided to go back on them again, just started a week ago so

hopefully I might return to the normal happy person I used to be.

      Hello Agnes,

I am right there with you. I was down do half my dose. It took me almost a year to get there. Felt horrible since November... thought it would get better only to realize I was getting worse. Started back my full dose just 3 days ago and am feeling normal! I hope you feel better really soon. I would imagine a week or 2 most and you will feel a difference! xx

Thanks Loretta for your support its driving me nuts was down

the high street today when a whopper of a flush came on, I had

the shakes and thought I was going to pass out. I thought my

doctor had given me the same hrt I was on before but these are just white pills my other pills were 2 different colours I'm sure

One of the colours were orange. I haven't seen any signs of

improvement yet but that has just been a week lol. I know I

Know I'm looking for a miracle right away lol

I was swollen, retaining fluid, my boobs felt like watermelons and were so sore! Also acid reflux became an issue, like when pregnant.

I went back full dose every day and within a week swelled up and acid reflux came back. So I am now taking it every other day so it works well for me, feeling better all around. Perhaps the dose just needed to be adjusted. I now have a stockpile of HRT but have no intention of having the doctor change the script. Cheaper this way!!!

hi new here ive stopped taking hrt 5wks ago having reduced slowly for a couple of months ,im not doing too bad a few flashes per day they dont last long but it bugs me that im taking off cardigans and within a half hour im putting it back on again ,in saying that day time is not too bad .now bed time my sleeping is not great and im having sweats a few times a night i find them worse than day time .im not sure how long it takes for it to be fully out of your system but if it stays this way im up for giving it a go .i was on femston combi for almost 7yrs .i have a friend who was on the patches for over 20yrs she gave up suddenly ,and went through it hard for 6mths after that it settled down she now only gets the odd flash so id say its worth giving it a good go .

I take a hard pill too, I just take it every other day instead of cutting it in half, seems to be working out. It has been 6 months since I have been doing this.  Not perfect, but functioning!!!
