The pulling sensation is probably your stitches, i think they tighten then break. You will more than likely notice a black stringlike thing on toilet paper in the next few days/week. If i remember rightly one or two of mine came out quite early. Take a couple of pain killers if its too uncomfortable but if pain is too much for your own threshhold or tablets dont ease it talk to gp.

with regard to discharge? If its smelly or looks strange best get gp to take a look but it sounds like its just normal body fluid.

If you have itching and white discharge, could possibly be thrush, get checked out by your GP. Don't do too much walking just yet, rest should be your main priority and lots of it

I'm 10 wks post op and I find that if I walk around too much or lift more than 10 lbs I have that pulling sensation you're talking about. If I take it easier--lying down especially, it goes away. Little by little you can do more and I do mean little by little! This is taking longer than I thought! Definitely getting better though. Be patient......

Hi Jane91365, it is normal at this stage just remember you have been pulled about in your area it is major surgery . I wanted to know how they did the operation as I truly thought it was a small op so went on you tube well I was quite shocked on how they do the operation . Please don't do to much walking yet as it is way to early you need plenty of rest put your feet up as much as possible an let yourself heal . As for the pulling an period sensation I had exactly the same systems this normal after this operation , as for discharge I would say it is an infection which you can get after your operation I was put on antibiotics for a bladder infection . Please go to your GP an they need a wee sample for them to check . I hope iv answered some of your questions for you . I'm 11 weeks post op .

Thanks Julie, I'm just impatient as usual. I am not used to lying on the sofa for long periods and am anxious my husband is exhausted looking after me and working full time. I had a double prolapse and bladder sling operation so I suppose that is major surgery?

Thanks for the tip about you tube videos. I watched the 3 d version rather than the real thing of a posterior prolapse and it is very interesting. No wonder I ache. I have also had a bladder lift too. Looks like the patchwork quilt I am making by hand is going to end up for a king sized bed not a crib!

Hi Jane I had cystocele and rectocele prolapes my bowel was worst than they thought . I know it's hard to rest but you must I'm sure your husband doesn't mind looking after you if you start doing to much it will take you longer to recover as you could quite easily undo all the work that your surgeon has already done PLEASE be patient an rest . Which part of the country do you live .

I live in West Sussex, about 200 yards from the sea. Where are you?

If you use google and search for videos of posterior prolapse there are many different ones, including real surgery and moving diagrams. I watched the 3 d one, very informative.

       Hope you find one.

    Hi Jane,

If you are in Scarborough did you have your surgery in Toronto or is there a Scarborough in the UK?  This is important because of what you are and not allowed to do post surgery.  I had the pulling sensation which turned about to be normal as the stitches were being absorbed.  Also the discharge is normal for about 2-3  weeks post surgery.  You might also have some urine loss for another two weeks after that.  Everyone heals differently and you do need to ensure it's not an infection.  If there is no smell, then likely will go away with time; if not, you need antibiotics.

Let us know. If you have been told it would be beneficial to start walking a little more each day and increase your activity day by day.  If so,  you are likely in Canada.  If not, then the UK.  Advice for each is very different.

Please let us know so we can reply more knowledgeably.

I am Canadian and have been told to do things very much different than those on this site in the UK.

    HI Kezz,

I had a hysterectomy with anterior and posterier repairs - I think sometimes referred to as rectocyle and cystocyle repairs.  My bladder prolapse was severe and the length of time I had a uterine prolapse did damage to my rear end - to put it bluntly.  My rectum tear was stage 1 at diagnosis but stage 4 at operation time. I am a 71 year old Canadian.

I was given very different instructions do so with rest and activity post surgery than everyone I have heard from in Britain including a Matron who told me she knew from attending international meetings that things were done differently in different parts of the world.  That's why I asked Jane where she had her surgery.

    Hope this answers your question.
