I am a 53 year old male. I have just this morning been prescribed this medication for high blood pressure. 2.5mg rising to 7.5mg over 3 weeks. I have not yet taken any. Having read the possible side effects, none of which were mentioned to me by my GP, I am now very concerned about taking it.

It's a difficult call to make. Obviously lots of people have had side effects from this drug, but there are probably even more who have been successfully treated. All I would say is don't be afraid to go back to your GP with your concerns. My mother in currently in hospital (unrelated to Ramapril, although she has been taking this drug for a few years) and developed problems with her blood pressure, too low. We had to have quite a heated discussion with the doctor before he agreed to stop administering it, and unsurprisingly, she has rallied a bit. During the debate (usual nonsense of I'm the expert, who are you to question me etc.), he did admit that this drug has a complicated effect on the body and affects different organs & systems in different ways. It may be the best drug of choice for you, but you won't know until you try. I would suggest that by questioning the treatment, they will monitor your body's reaction quite carefully, if not, ask them to! Good Luck.Maria.

I am a 50 yesr old female and I have been prescribed this drug - 2.5mg - a few days ago by my GP. I have not taken any yet because of the possible side effects however I realise I must do something therefore I am going to call back to see my GP to discuss this further before I start. In the meantime I have bought a BP monitor from Boots (£50) and doing more exercise and cutting down on the wine...

    Hello

I read your 'case' with sympathy. I was prescribed Ramipril 'blind'. My consultant wrtoe to my GP to prescribe itWhen I asked what it was for, the GP told me it would make my heart more efficient. When I got home, I read the packet info. and it said it was for high B/P. I have low B/P! I am now one week in, very lightiheaded and my heart is thinpimg nineteen to the dozen - exactly the opposite effect to hat which is supposed to induce. I waited for about three days before taking it as I was uneasy. I am now very uneasy! I wish I had never taken it now. Hope you are now OK.
