I am about to start duloxetine, what can I except?

My doctor has prescribed me duloxetine a couple weeks ago but I have been afraid to start because he had prescribed me Prozac before this and it made me feel horrible with really bad heads and one of my pupils bigger than the other, so now we are trying this.

What can I expect when I take it, and is there something I can do to make the side effects less intense? Like taken it at a certain time, eating or drinking water before or after? This might be a silly question but I'm just very nervous because I have a 1 year old son that i need to take care of 24/7, and can't afford to feel so sick to the point were I can't function. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

    Hi Pamela

I take 120mg at night and that works for me. I don't have any major side effects so I'm lucky. I have had problems with other antidepressants but this one works for me. Good luck.

    Hi Pamela ,

I have been on Duloxetine 30mg for about 5 weeks Now - I found i have a headache for the first week but i believe that is just me when i start tablets but the headache have subsided -i have slight shivers for the first week they have gone too - i think the only thing i felt hard was sleeping at night as i take my slow release tablet at 5pm with a biscuit , and i did wake up for the first couple of weeks a 4am in the morning that to have gone .I have read that a lot of people take there tablets in the morning -tried once but it was not for me . You have to remember not everyone is the same and will have the same symtems if any . I have a really bad problem with Citapram so they switched me to these . Hope it helps a bit it also took me 2 months to start this new tablet not knowing what to expect .Like all tablets they take time to adjust to your body .

I think I may just not even start. I don't want to be on a medicine that is a pain to come off of. Thank you!

I was like you did not want to start a new tablet - But i was told by my C.B.T lady withdrawal off a tablet takes 2 weeks -after that it is an adjustment to your body if you have been on them as long as i have  - i had to come off Citalopram my doctor told me to come off straight away after being on it a long time it was the wrong advise -So i thought i could do without Anti -depressents struggled to day 50 and had to go back on them -so i know where you are coming from -
