 zopiclone is a big problem re addiction. Some docs hand them out like sweeties, others don't. Apparently the 3.5 dose is routinely given to inmates of old folks homes to keep them sedated...

Getting off them is hard, no doubt about it. Have you tried explaining to your new doc that you have a problem and want help weaning yourself off them? This can take 2 or 3 months, because it is as much a psychological problem as a physical one. You know, just to take something you think will help you sleep, even if it's a smartie!

I took 6 weeks to come off them, cutting the 7.5 dose tabs in to smaller and smaller bits. Then I was recommended Lloyds Pharmacy High Strength Sleep Easy tabs (take 2, not 1) and Valerian Tea (the real stuff, available online or through eBay) and eventually I slept again. It was a good 3 months before I felt I was sleeping properly, though, so don't expect instant results.

I have tried everything from Nytol (crap) to Lavender Oil (not sure if it does anything, but it smells nice) and the usual rubbish advice (hot bath and Horlicks, this is abviously from someone who has never experienced sleeping tab withdrawal!)

Getting totally knackered seems to help me - I am currently up for work at 4.30am and sometimes don't get to bed until 11pm.

One thing to look forward to - it feels really, really good to go to bed pill-free, knowing you no longer rely on them. You'll get there, but please, ask your new doc for help, it will be hard for you otherwise. smile

dont think you are addicted. get of your lazy bum and start exercising. it will get you tired and aid sleep. also get into the habit of having a hot milky drink and a banana before bed time as this combo works a treat.

what a stupid reply! you obviously have never suffered addiction/withdrawal probs. It can totally take over your life and is both physical and mental.

If you have nothing supportive to say, please keep quiet.
