I am having muscle spasms every night around 3 -4 am. Recovery is going well. Im taking walks and doing my PT exercises every day. Pain is minimal and only taking tylenol arthritis in evenings. Should I be worried about the spasms? Is this normal?

hi I'm almost 5 weeks post OP ( tomorrow) and I've been getting same spasms in bed mainly when I wake in the morning. I thought they were settling as I'd been able to walk a bit outside but yesterday cos of the rain we had here I didn't do any outside walking so halfed what my daily total had been. so last night / this morning suffered with the spasms again. mine always settle when I get up. I'm sure this is all normal. muscles that haven't been worked for ages having to re awake. I see it as progress tbh . good luck with yr recovery

    Carol,

Magnesium citrate may control the muscle spasms, it certainly stops restless legs.

I actually took a magnesium pill last night. I assume it takes a while for them to work? I'll keep taking them for a while and see what happens...can't hurt. thanks for your post

      Carol,

Over three hundred functions in the body require magnesium to work normally therefore, there is a lot of different areas using the magnesium. Initially, it will go to where it is most needed so please do not give up on the magnesium, it will work, the longer it takes the more deficient your body is. It really is the most important mineral the body needs.

that's interesting re magnesium. I did take it when I first came home from hospital as was getting cramps to my feet but have stopped taking it. I take vit d every day esp as not getting much sun and I know magnesium helps u absorb that. I'll re start it. thx
