I am confused

It started as a slight pain in my arm which lasted 8 months. Then went to physio for a further 5/6 months who gave me exercises and said I had shoulder impingement. In that time I was sent for an X-ray and was given a cortisone injection which didn't work. Unfortunately I took a fall which made the pain and shoulder worse. I was eventually referred to hospital where I saw a Scope Physiotherapist who said I had a frozen shoulder caused by the fall. He never sent me for another X-ray, he just moved my arm etc about, looked at my old X-ray and said there is no point in doing the exercises as they won't help and he also said that it could take 1/2 years to go away. He gave me an open appointment card for a year and told me if I get worse to go back to him. I am really struggling now. It seems to be more painful and my mobility is worse. Can anyone give me advise please?

Hi. Frozen shoulder is miserable. Don't just listen to your Physio. Go and see a doctor if you're not happy.

I had my Physio treating me for a rotator cuff injury, that's what he thought it looked like. I can normally trust him, but I placed too much trust in him this time. He kept giving me exercises that hurt and that I couldn't really do. Eventually he said it must be frozen shoulder. He told me surgery is routine in USA and UK, but isn't done in NZ.

I saw a dr friend at the weekend who told me that is rubbish, it's done all the time in NZ! I'm going to my gp tomorrow, and will hopefully be referred to an orthopaedic surgeon.

Ive been suffering for a lot longer than necessary because I just listened to my, usually trustworthy, Physio.

Good luck. I hope you get it sorted out soon.

It's so frustrating that professional people can tell you different stories when it's the one ailment.

Because I have been through another one seven years ago it still took me sometime to realise my Chiro looked at me as his pay cheque. He mentioned one day that he owned three houses. That was when after two months of treatment I decided to see a private Consultant. Who said a Physio was only useful post Operation!...I do not know if this is true...before this I was sent for a scan on the NHS. I was told Bursitis! No consultant in sight. A consultant is a good start then u can look at yr options which are MUA or hydrodiltation...or tretonics...if u live nr Toronto or Talin. There is a fantastic new injection but it is not approved in the UK. Breaks down scar tissue....

Hi Elaine - what's the new injection? First I've heard of another option. Very interested to know.

I live in Scotland so our health care is free for which I am truly grateful. Just get fed up of different opinions from different professions.

I need to look at a past email. It's available in the U.S but used in the U.K for I believe a constricted finger ligament. I contacted the supplier here....I'll have a look..

Xiapex is it's UK name. Different countries use different names. I found an email address for the supplier. They replied straight away. If u r non UK he can give u contacts in yr country...

It is frustrating- the number of posts here show that you are not alone, that many of us know what you are going through and wish you well. I try to think of each treatment as one step along the long road to recovery! One thought springs to mind- you don't mention seeing a consultant. I was lucky being seen by a fairly young orthopaedic consultant who gave me the choice of treatments and was up for trying new ones. He was a real contrast to the older one I Initially saw in A and E after my fall My physiotherapist has been wonderful in helping me but if you haven't seen a doctor, you might be wise to ask your GP for a referral to someone more highly qualified than a Physio with access to scans and treatments. Wishing you well.

Initially it was a physio through my work. After weeks of exercises he told me to go to my GP and advised I get an X-ray done and try a cortisone injection. Unfortunately the injection didn't help. I continued with the physio but then I had a fall. This set me right back and he told me to go back to the GP and advised that I get referred to the hospital. I had the hospital in November. I thought as it was the orthopaedic clinic that it would be a orthopaedic doctor but it was a Scope Physio. He looked at my old X-ray that was taken before I fell. I am going back to the orthopaedic clinic in 3 weeks time regarding a lump on my thumb. I was going to mention my frozen shoulder to this doctor and hopefully get some answers.
