I have been on Diazepam for 10 years. 10mg 3 times a day. My GP cut it down to 10mg 2 times a day in August 2016. Then I was taken completely off of them. I started experiencing digestive problems and thought I had a virus. It is January 19 2017 and having same problem along with sleeping, heart beating fast at night, sweating, tingling in hands and feet and headaches. I also have Multiple Sclerosis. My doctor told me in December it was in my head. In January I spoke to his nurse about symptoms and she understood because she was going through same situation. GP gave never some Vistaril to sleep. Not working. Don't know what to do. I feel like I'm dieing. I need to advice as to your situations. Help me please.

The cut your GP made in respect of diazepam was too quick and has left you with an addiction problems.

The body is used to having a certain amount of diazepam its system and your body should have been cut down very gradually.

It's easy to swop one addiction for another, so, if you can get by without sleeping the better you will be. Longer term. X

Hi. Really sorry you are having a bad time. Lack of sleep and anxiety is terrible I know. I am guessing you are in the U.K. Where I am from.

I think you need to go back to your go and say I need some help. I think you would do a lot worse that going to see a psychiatrist who actually understands what's going on. One who deals with sleep and anxiety. Do some research.

Do you have any insurance? If not I would pay privately if you can. I live in New Zealand now and while there is a health system people are much more relaxed about paying to get what they want,

I expect you will be reluctant to go back on benzos and I think I would be the same. You may not want any other meds either but I would go with an open mind . I think you need to stabilise and you might need some help with that so you can start to feel better. Good lunch whatever you do. Be prepared to go to a new gp if necessary.

I was in a similar position and am feeling a lot better having one to psychiatrist for the last few months

Do you see a specialist MS Nurse or Neurologist regarding your MS? If so it could be worth discussing this with them. Firstly it doesn't sound like your dose was tapered down over an appropriate amount of time to minimise withdrawals. Secondly, there's a possibility that being on Diazepam for as long as you were may have been masking some of your MS symptoms. Whoever's care you are under for your MS, I would try making an appointment to see them to discuss this.

I have a neurologist for the MS. I really don't want to go back on any narcotics for anxiety. Just want to be treated like I was a person by the gp who took me off the Diazepam as quick as he did. To me, in my opinion, put me in harms way. It is very dangerous to take someone off narcotics as fast as he did. Him knowing that I would go through withdrawals, should have steered me to someone that could help me. Doctors, I guess, are scared about the prescribing of benzo's. They are scared they will get into trouble or their license pulled. They don't think about the patient at this time. It's sad what corruption and politics are doing to the medical field. This will cause many lawsuits on the doctors. And at this time, where will the politicians be when it happens.

Hi Tina, How long have you been off the diazapam? Are you saying the doctor thinks the MS is in your head or the withdrawl symptoms?

I was on 1mg diazapam for 2 1/2 years and was experiencing tolerance withdrawls but didnt know it.

If you have the ability to look for a doctor with a better understanding of benzos that would be helpful. I never found one, by the grace of God I got through it.

There a great support groups online.

I also had protracted withdrawls once I was off them. I feel like the benzos really screwed up my brain and it took a long time for it to heal.

I had insomnia, fast heart rate, tingling, my headache felt like a strap was around my head, Id get hot thencold, shaking,I had many visits to the emergency room and tons of testing done.

The one thing they found was an hiatal hernia, I think that was part of the problem.

I am fine now, its been two years since my last dose of diazapam.

I hope my experiences can help you. It seems to make the hell you go through almost worth if you can help others. God bless you in your road to healing!

He is saying that my withdrawal symptoms are in my head. I was diagnosed with MS in 1986. The reason I stated that was because of MS symptoms coming out with kick of sleep or stress level elevated.

When I went to him on December, we was talking about the Diazepam. I was describing my symptoms and he about jumped down my throat and said that my insurance carrier required a physicitrist to prescribed the Diazepam. Then he said that my symptoms I described to him were in my head. When I went back to him in January, he was more sympathetic with me. I just told him that I wasn't asking for anything, that I just wanted to let him know what was going on with my body. I wanted it noted that I did talk to him about the symptoms. That is when he gave me the vistarilon sleep. I want to be off of these evil pills but I wanted it to be a easy withdrawal. I know that I wasn't weaned down properly.

I went off the Diazepam in September of 2016. It is now January of 2017. My symptoms are still there. The ones that I really hate are the ones at night when I am trying to sleep. Won't let me sleep. Making me crazy. Many nights I have been tempted of going to hospital. But just really don't want Diazepam gojng jnto my body. So I am trying to sweat it out.

Thank you so much for all of the commentsuper. I really appreciate thd help you all have been giving me. Didn't realize that the little pills was doing this much harm to my body.

Thanks again. Just woke up from the first night in months that I actually slept more than an hour or two at a time. Maybe I am trying to mend.

Tina The symptoms are not in your head. Your brain/ body is learning how to work right without the drugs. Im sorry youre going through this, I hope you have people in your life to stand by you.

I thank you for your response. How can gp's be so cold. Surely they have an idea of the way we feel. I would hope so. It is nice to know that there are people out there who will listen to me and really know how I am feeling and know what I am going through. It is pure hell. I know when I get cleaned from this, I do not want anything to do with the Diazepam. Thank yoj again for caring.
