I have Monovision and have worn glasses for over 30 years. I tried contacts for Mono vision but my eyes would never adjust. I do a lot of computer work so my eye doctor said he thought close up reg lenses would be good but I am having second thoughts and think I should get lenses for far away. Can anyone help me with this? I need to made a decision next week. I don't mind wearing my glasses for computer work.

Depending on your answer, my suggestion may change. However, my first suggestion will be to get your dominant eye set for far distance and the non-dominant eye set for about the best vision at intermediate distance of about 26 inches. With that combination, you should be able do most things without glasses, needing them only for reading fine print at a close distance.

Hello I have a card for my prescription...
OD is SPH -0.75, CYL -1.00, AXIS 095
OS is SPH -0.75, CYL -1.00, AXIS 085
ADD +2.50
ADD +2.50
My dominant eye is the one that is seeing ghost and blurry vision the worst. I knew I was developing Cataracts for the past 5 years but now it has really been bothering me so need to get the Cataracts taken care of.
My Doctor found out I don't drive so he said up close lenses but I don't mind wearing my glasses for computer work every day and reading. HE also explained my eye in this way..Most are smooth as glass and my surface is like a potato chip so I can't have some kinds of lenses. He said Regular for me..what ever those are..but I am assuming Mono focal from what I have read. What ever I decide, He will do the first eye on the 21st and the second eye on March 6th.. Thank you for any help!

Looking at your glasses prescription, it does not look like you have been using monovision with glasses.
All that means is that you should try to keep the difference in your eyes prescription difference to about 1D or less, which makes it easier to adjust to.
My first suggestion above may have resulted in a difference of about 1.5D between the 2 eyes. So, I will modify that slightly.
1. If the near vision and the intermediate vision is more important to you, you should aim the dominant for the best vision at about 26 inches and the non-dominant eye at about 17-18 inches. You will then be able to read most of the material and work at the computer without glasses, but will need to use glasses for far distance or for driving.
2. The alternative is to have the dominant eye set for about -0.25 D and the non-dominant eye set for about -1.25 D (corresponding to the best focus at 32 inches). You should be able to see well beyond 23 inches, but will need glasses for reading or for computer work at 20 inches away..
Your choice of option 1 or 2 is strictly your decision and depends on your life style. Neither of them is the right decision or the wrong decision by itself.
All this assumes that you don't have astigmatism or any other visual issues after the cataract surgery.
Finally, please make sure that you know what your first eye ends up after cataract surgery to see if you achieved the target vision or how far you are from the target before making the decision for the second eye. The best target for the second eye will depend on what you actually achieve for the first eye. If you have a choice, just for that reason, I will suggest having a difference of about a month (instead of 2 weeks) between the 2 surgeries.

Hello
I don't believe I have bee using Monovision with my glasses, I know they are definitely bifocals. I think I should have a consultation with my eye Doctor to discuss this with him to see if he is going to do these things because I do not know but I can ask him if he is going to do this? I would like to know, Do you agree?
I am so use to wearing my glasses I am leaning toward option 2.
I will definitely wait between surgery for a month to be sure I achieve the best target.
Thank you so much for your help.
May I ask if you are an eye Doctor?

I think that you should definitely go with option 2 if that is what is your desire is. In that case, the surgeon should not have any concern about the dominant eye being set for about -0.25 D. Then, you can ask him if he has any concern / advice about having a mini-monovision by having the non-dominant eye set for about -1.25 D or -1.0 D to get a little better intermediate vision. It is important to ask him all the relevant questions, but make your own choice.

absolutely true--we are putting our trust in them. I only have 2 eyes and i prefer to still be able to see afterwards. I have to this day NO doubt my eye Drs both did the best for me and I suppose they can't see everything that can or could go wrong. Just still praying all this can be resolved and able to see like I thought I would afterwards. between the 3 actually have seen me and are helping have all been there for me when I need them. Why things go wrong I have no clue...they aren't gods and can't predict, but I still put my trust in their hands. I am improving SLOWLY but at times it has been stressful in different ways. If I had to do it all over again I don't even know if I would do anything different except maybe get another opinion. Can't change what is in the pass, but I can do my best to make changes for the future. Everyone have a wonderful day.
