I am getting hearing aids! How comfortable are they now?

I am going through with my decision to get hearing aids. I want to keep you guys posted on my story. I know i posted a topic about a question if hearing aids are worth it and somebody gave a HUGE thumbs up. Can't mention who for security reasons as I'm not sure they want me to mention their names. I have no permission to do so.
I have had many hearing tests (can probably do one in my sleep lol) but I often left the places because they had the bedside manner of a fish, I was told over the phone with a place i had been before to get a hearing test to be forwarded to a specialist at one point that based on the description of my hearing loss i will likely need a Behind the ear one, They are still going to do the test though. They pretty much have to she said.
I have 50 percent hearing loss in the left ear an 30 percent in the right ear. Due to ear surgeries and ear infections as a child. i had a very bad case of sinusitis 3 years ago and another bad ear infection so I wouldn't be surprised if that attributed to another drop of it. I am in my 30's, early and the secretary on the phone said i could even have coloured choices if i want! There go the days when colour in hearing aids was only meant for children. I you-tubed and there are many adults with coloured aids. I got a booked hearing test on the 15th of February (I'm Canadian if any of you wish to know) I used to have an older pair of open fit hearing aids but no matter how loud i turned 'em up i can't hear out of them and out of curiosity i tried them on last night and put my finger over the hole of the open one and could hear! They were horridly uncomfortable and pinched so I will be getting a new pair! I couldn't stand them for more than five minutes last night though! I am supposed to bring them for the assessment so they can gauge why i didn't like them.
They're likely going to be a full ear bowl hearing aid behind the ear version from what the secretary on the phone said (i think that's the term) I have also heard that even these aren't as heavy weight as they used to be. Is this legit for any of you who might be willing to answer my question on this? The modern versions anyways. Anything takes time to get used to but i am curious nonetheless.

Hello Marty
I also have no experience of hearing aids and hope I can hold out for a few years but I do have a moderate hearing loss. I'm sorry I'm not answering your question but I have one to ask you. I have to get a new mobile phone (Melbourne, Australia - 2G network being 'decommissioned' and was looking at one I thought might be good but saw a review that said 'no good for the older person'; the volume was not good and so it was hard to hear. You are young and part of the smart phone generation so I wondered how you managed with this and if you had found a good brand. My old phone is 17 years old so I am floundering in a whole new world of technology!
Thanks for any help. Maureen

Hi there Maureen05275, WOW!! You are a long ways away!! :O!! That is so amazing! i hope when and if you do get them they work well for you. It's completely okay. ^^ When i get my hearing aids and it is common to wait a while though but when I do you can ask me questions if you like. I can only describe but not offer medical advice of course. Just being careful there. ^^
unfortunately I am not a technology guru but when I use my home phone I always ALWAYS need the sound up and press the up button, every phone is different. I too have trouble with cell phones, they are very hard for me to hear out of.
The reason i don't have a cell phone is simply bills those aren't in my means at the moment and I have horses. The horses are always and will be the first priority. However on a mobile phone I have no idea how to help D=! Wish I could though! I'm in the same boat as you with hearing loss. Moderate. Unless the audiologist says otherwise. This was the last test: 50 percent left ear 30 percent right ear. I am getting excited because I will be able to hear better and get the correct hearing aids i need. :D also coloured too! If they're gonna see it anyways why not have some fun? I had tried on my old pair a few nights ago and now i know why i hated them so much! They pinched my ears really badly and were poorly made. An open fit, so I couldn't hear a thing out of it even with a fresh battery my Dad loaned me to try it again! It even slid out! When I put my finger over the ear piece inside my ear i could hear! :O The sound was on but the secretary said some open fits are hard to hear out of with my hearing loss. I did some research and someone on you tube said this about a full ear mold.
It will feel as though something is there but i will get used to it and eventually hardly feel it at all. That is if they are correctly made the person on you-tube described by answering my question. They had a hearing aid same style as i'm getting. They also said snug but not tight. I think this is going to be better than the last pair I had which I wouldn't wear because they hurt me to do so. --and for your post after that it's quite alright. Typos happen to the best of us ^^ 17 years old!? WOW you got that cell phone just going in years!! That is IMPRESSIVE! Most cell phones don't last that long!

Thank you Marty from Canada for your long response. I love the coloured aids idea and why not have fun with them? Great talking point! You sound like a really positive person to be around and I compliment you on your attitude. I had to google the :D - as you would gather from the 17 year old mobile (forgot you call them cell phones), I'm not too tech savvy. The mobile is a Nokia, all the rage back in 1998! It does the basics - very basic - and nothing much else but it is virtually indestructible. Such a pity that it is becoming obselete. I even still have a spare battery for it - also now unusable I'm afraid. Thank you for telling me about your difficulty with phone volumes; it will help with decision making. Horses sound great. I live in one of the suburbs of Melbourne. I have a big garden but no room for a horse. I have a lovely big all-white puddy cat (named 'Puddy' who adopted me four years ago, a tame 'Big Mumma' brushtail possum whom I feed and who lives in a high ivy-covered gum stump by my back door along with various offspring until she boots them out and a colony of mice who are an endless source of fascination for Puddy (6 rescues from the back lawn so far this year)! Life is never dull!
Good luck with your appointment this week and the hearing aids. I do hope you find something that works really well for you.
