Hannah, Be very assertive and demand to see a specialist (Haematologist) Nodes of that size are a definite concern and need to be verified by either a FNA or a surgical biopsy. I speak from experience having had dealings with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma since 1994.

    Get action NOW!!!

I wish you all the luck in the world and look forward to hearing your ongoing reports.

Hi Hannah. You have every right to be worried. Lymphoma will not show in a blood test, my blood tests were normal before, during and after treatment. I went to the doctor with one small lump behind my ear, he immediately said that he wasn't sure what it was so transferred me to the hospital. Thanks to him my lymphoma was diagnosed very early, stage 1a. You need to be assertive now and tell him that you want a biopsy. If he refuses seek a second opinion, change surgeries if necessary. You really need that biopsy. If you have difficulties contact PALS online (patient advice and liaison service), they're very good. Please keep in touch and let me know how you get on. Good luck.

I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this, I myself am going through something similar. You could start with asking for a simple ultrasound like I did. From the ultrasound they will be able to tell how big it is and from what I'm told they can also tell if it is suspicious looking or just enlarged. At least this way you can track them to make sure they aren't getting bigger. You could also ask to see an ear nose and throat specialist. Please keep us posted!

Hi Hannah. Some doctors are just too happy to write a prescription and leave it at that. I strongly advise that you either ask for a second opinion, change surgeries or contact PALS. You absolutely need to get a proper diagnosis and not be fobbed off any longer by a G.P. that doesn't see the need and the urgency for steps to be taken to ensure the well being of one of his patients. I'm getting angry here on your behalf lol. Keep in touch and persevere.

I firmly believe you are spot on with your comments to Hannah.

If nothing is done for this poor lass soon, the gp will be prescribing antidepressants next.

Hannah get another opinion quick. You don't deserve more stress.

      lol.

Good on you Elizabeth and thanks for sharing your thoughts with Hannah. Quiet obviously she needs support and who better than from those who have been there.

I am interested also to hear your story and experiences if you are willing to share too.

      Best wishes.

My post is "Watch and Wait" basically I have had an enlarged lymph node in my neck since a strep throat infection in November. I've been feeling generally run down since November. I went to my doctor about the fatigue and they ran the typical blood tests which yielded nothing more than a positive EBV IgG indicating a past mono infection. I got another throat infection at the beginning of February and when I started thinking about it, I realized my lymph node have never really returned it to its normal size so back to the doctor I went.

My GP send me for an ultrasound of the lymph node. The ultrasound technician scanned it for a few moments and then grabbed the radiologist. The radiologist took a look at it asked me a bunch of questions, and said that we should just watch and wait to see if it returns to its normal size over the next 3 to 6 months. He said he was not concerned with it being anything more than a reactive lymph node. I am meeting with an ENT to go over everything in a week.

It's just frustrated because obviously not being a doctor, I don't know if this is normal and I'm being neurotic or this is slightly abnormal and they're being nonchalant about it. It's just so hard to walk the line between advocating for good care and coming off as a screeching harpy

      Hi there Joy,

May I ask, how were you diagnosed? Ultrasound, ct scan, biopsy?

Hi. I found a lump behind my ear so went to my G.P. He said he didn't know what it was so referred me to hospital. There was a 12 week wait so I went private through my husband's work health insurance. Saw a consultant on the Friday, he booked me in for surgery the following Friday and I got the diagnosis the Friday after that. After the diagnosis I was referred back to the NHS for treatment. I had CT scan, MRI scan, PET scan, ultrasound scan and bone marrow biopsy. And I have had wonderful treatment from everyone I have seen on the NHS.

    Hey Hannah,

If you can, please try going to the doctor and asking them that you want either a ct scan, or biopsy to rule cancer out. Please keep us posted.
