I am going nuts: did you get preventative/routine antibiotics after your rubber band ligation?

Hello!

I am in two minds now what to do, and am going a bit insane: after my first ligation, I was given prophylactic antibiotics, and they made me feel so bad (diarrhoea, nausea etc), and now after my second ligation, I looked this up, and I can't actually find that it is indeed standard practice to give antibiotics after hemorrhoid rubber band ligation/banding? Or is it? Should I even be on antibiotics?

I found a few articles saying that there doesn't seem to be any benefit in giving preventative antibiotics for the more complex hemorrhoid surgeries, yet can't find one thing on the whole internet about whether or not routine, preventative antibiotics are a widely given for rubber band ligation/banding...

So, please help me out here, did you get preventative antibiotics after your rubber band ligation?

Thank you so much!

hi, i had a (failed) rubber band litigation and no i was not given any antibiotics. I was given an ice pack and told to take paracetamol if the pain was really bad.

I only had 2 small internal ones banded so not sure if they are large it could be different.

      Hi!

Thank you so much for replying, that is a huge comfort! So it seems that antibiotics for this are up to the doctor/clinic, not so much a medically proven need. I also had small internal ones banded (one at a time though). I am sorry to hear yours failed, if it makes you feel any better (misery loves company), I think this time around mine failed as well, hurrah, I hate all this so, so much. 😃

to answer your question i guess you should have antibiotics. here in india doctors tends to give antibiotics no matter what the thing is. Also when the pile mass fall off,it would create a tissue injury which COULD possibly be infected. some lucky people dont get it but there is still a slight

(i read this somewhere) but risk is ~4%. so i really recommand you to have antibiotics. Also bulk up on fiber and veggies to make poop softer.
