I am not sure if I have Tietze

I am a 19 year old girl and about two weeks ago I went to the doctors to see what he thought of this rather large, hard and painful lump that had appeared on my right breast. It is located towards the middle of my chest at the top and is really sore. It also feels tender at the side of my right breast. My left side is fine, although I think some swelling is starting to happen.

My doctor did not like the look of this and referred me to a breast clinic. I went on Wednesday, the doctor barely touched or looked at me and said i had titze. She could not tell me what caused it, how to get rid of it, anything about it. I have since looked on the internet for some information on this and am not all together convinced I have it.

The symptoms are tightness and severe pain in the chest, I do not have any of these things. I do, however, walk incredibly fast and sometimes feel very out of breath and my chest does feel a bit....well tight, but I put this down to walking stupidly fast.

I read also on Wikipedia that a minor injury can cause it. Last year I was pushed over a metal pole backwards and have now got to have physiotherapy, could this have anything to do with it??

Any advise or opinions would be great!

I have has a similar experience to you with this. I went to the doctors as I started to get pains in both my breast and just below my armpits. I had checked for lumps though and couldnt find any. The doc didnt really check my over but pushed hard on the top of my ribcage which really hurt. She then told me I have Tietze Syndrome and just to take ibruprofen until it goes away. She says it can quite often feel like pains in your breasts but isnt. However, I have now started feeling this pain behind my nipple so im really not sure if what she said is right. Also, the pain isnt really severe which I have seen is common. If anyone can give me some advice along with the girl above I would really appreciate it.

As far as I know, you dont get lumps when you have tiezte?

Yeah, I have been looking on the internet for things to do with this (the doctor I saw in the hospital didn't even spell it correctly which I found slightly.... well not a good sign for anything) and have seen nothing that says lumps are a symptom. I suppose inflammation can be so severe that it is almost lump like, but I can move this thing on my breast around, I can physically hold it.

Also, after reading so many other peoples experiences it doesn't look like taking nurofen or anything like that is going to help it at all.

Hello, I have similar symptoms too. I went to the doctors yesterday with a painful hard lump just underneath my left breast, on the breast bone. I'ts a swelling about an inch big and very tender to touch. I've had it for several weeks but recently it's become quite a bit more painful. I'm conscious of it all the time now. My doctor said it was Tietze and should clear on its own. However, after reading up on Tietze on the internet today I'm not sure if the diagnosis is correct. It doesn't effect my breathing or cause tightness in the chest. Its just a lump but the pain does shoot across the whole breast. Does this sound like Tietze to anyone?

I don't think lumps are tietze's especially if you can hold and move it! That sounds more like a cyst to me but I'm no doctor. Sometimes my breast does ache from the pain especially towards the armpit area, which can be a naturally lumpy area, and can also feel like my ribs are hurting (which is why I had a bone scan once which was all clear). I guess inflammation can cause one area to swell to form a lump?

Trouble is with this syndrome is no one really knows much, particulary the docs! WE NEED RESEARCH!

I think previous injury to the chest area can trigger tietze.

I strongly recommend accupuncture-by a qualified doctor only, heatrub/ibulieve gel on chest, symbicort inhaler and rest- no coughing, deep breathing, laughing!!!!!
