Is there newer treatments or is a replacement imminent

    hello

my name is Jodie im 16 years old and i been dignosed with CDH (congential dislocation of the hips) in both hips since i was 2 years old.

When i was 2 years old i was admitted to royal devon and exeter hospital i had 3 operations there and they did more bad than good. They put me in a lot of hip spikers and they were not any good. They told me i would be in a wheel chair by the time i was 16

When i was just 5 years old i got moved to a hosital called Great Ormand street in London i had 6 more operations and they did wonders!

Now im 16 years old i am able to run around like any normal teenagers and i am not in a wheel chair.

i do get aches and pains from the cold weather and when i have been doing to many exercise but the only thing to keep that pain away is to stay in the warmth and rest.

i just wanted to write to you because i have never spoken to anyone with the same condition as me and would like seek advise in the future

thank you for taking time to read this.

    hi there L and Jodie

I was born with CDH and was in a cast for six months of my early life, I am 34 and I have severe hip pain, I have x-rays recently and the doc said I have narrowed spacing in the hip joint, the doc said it was due to my problems I have with my spine or could be arthritis??? I have difficulty walking especially upstairs and long distance.........to the local shop about 5 streets away!!!

L you should ask your gp as my aunt had a hip replacement due to osteoarthritis

    Take care

    Regards

Hi my Mum who is fifty years old had her first hip replacment 15 years ago. They are now watching the other hip as she is getting some pain when working and being on her feet for long periods. The x-rays are giving the all clear for now, but in a few years the other hip will have to be repalced. She had many operations as a young child an spent some months in a full body cast and even had the salvation army make a full length wicker wheeled vehicle for her to travel in. How times have changes. The poster who asked about possible treatments when CCh is in advanced adult stages, as far as I know a full hip replacement is the only option.

My daughter Lucie has congenital Hip Dyplasia and is now three years old. She was sucessfully treated with the Pavlik harness as a baby. She spent a total of 6 months in the harness and now has hips as good as anyone elses.

I seem to escaped the CCH and so has my other son.

    Good luck to you all.

[color=black:912ac3769e][/color:912ac3769e] I was born in 1947 and it wasn't disovered until i was about 13 months old that my hips were out of place. I was in hospital from 18 months to 4 years old. From thn on I lived a normal a life as possible. I got married and had 3 daughters by ceaserian section. in 1992 I was told I could be given pain free movable hips. So I had my left hip done in 92 and the right in 1993, and I havent been right since. I think in my case surgery should never have been done. I used to walk unaided now I use two sticks and quite often a wheelchair. I hope if you do decide to have surgery it all works out for you. I think it depends on the hips and how bad you are now.

    Hi there all

I read that the first girl born is generally the most likely of sibling to have CDH and in later life more likely to develop Arthritis. I am still in pain after over 9 months down the line, and I took my mum with me to the doctors as I am so fed up with not getting a diagnosis as previously went to see a rhuemotologist she said I had mechanical back strain!!!!!!, my doctor said to my mum as there are that many forms of Arthritis he has to pin point the correct one as there is over 100 diferent forms of arthritis.

I do hope you all are well
