I am now terrified please help!

As most have read i stopped drinking recently and got a pain under right rib and too the back.

i am now getting the same pain on the left, doctor thinks on the right is the galbladder but the left is getting worse and worse and from looking on line is most likely the spleen.

From looking online i see this is from end stage liver disease, anyone know if this is right? I don't want to die, i have a daughter and i am only in my 20's and now terrified.

Someone please advise

Do not worry the liver can renew it self once you stop drinking alcohol, the fact that you have not turned yellow, l mean the whole of your skin turning into a yellow colour means, you are not that badly affected, ask your GP to get scans taken so you can know how bad things are real are.

    Hi tambdy,

try and get to hospital for some tests, I stopped drinking over 4 months ago, I had pains in sides aswell, my skin was also turnig yellow and I was urinating blood, I was petrified also,

After 2 weeks in hospital after endless scans and camera down throat and up anal igot released, its definatley a terrifying time but 4 months later my skin colour normal urinating ok and not had pain,as said previously the liver can fix if u sustain from alcohol my latest blood test was fine and ive not to see a specialist for 6 months

im relatively young also but if u have damaged yourself it can be cured goodluck

Thanks steven for your advise, did you have the pains all over your body top of chest left and right side under rib cage?

I just had all the blood and urine tests done, i am a nervous wreck but i just need to wait it out now.

I am pretty sure that you are suffering some pains due to anxiety smile Chest pain can occur, particularly during panic attacks. You may find that if you can relax a little, any chest pain will subside. Just know that you WOULD be yellow if your liver was packing up and try and find a way to relax which doesn't involve drinking smile Anxiety is also a normal part of your body withdrawing from alcohol, so don't beat yourself up about it smile

Hi Tambdy:  Yep, pain was sharp, stabbing pain in my left side of my stomach, which seemed to radiated around to the left side of my back justunder my ribcage area.  Pain radiated into the center of my stomach.  The right side of my stomach wasn't as painful, but there was a constant nagging dull throbbing pain on that side, that also seemed to radiate to the right side of my back as well.

The most unpleasant health emergency I ever had in my life.  I hope all is OK.  Or at lhe very least, that it is not as bad as you think! smile  Sending you my best regards!

So I have same thing Steven. basically I just need to quit drinking instead of go to er? I went to minor med today and they tested my urine and blood but didn't talk about liver enzymes. I KNOW THOSE ARE HIGH. I drink daily but when I binge my sides hurt like crazy. I'm laying in bed now hurting. When I slow down or occasionally stop it goes away. I've been needing to quit forever but a beer is so good after work or a long week. Also, Any suggestions on what you're supplementing alcohol with? After 4 months do you feel like a new person?

    Hi Tambdy!

I went to the ER once, while I was drinking heavily for a few years.

I had an impossible-to-handle pain.  Some sharp 'stabbing' pain under my right rib that radiated to the same spot on my back.  But that quickly turned into an *excrutiating* pain on my left side.  It was so painful I couldn't exactly determine where the center of pain was coming from on the left side.

The ER doctor immediately said he suspected Pancreatitis from my drinking, as our pancreas is located in the upper left of your stomach area.  The pain was so sharp, I had no idea that level of pain existed.  Doctor told me that often if your pancreas is in distress - it is not uncommon for your liver to be in pain (and vice-versa).

Often, if it is liver failure (or fatty-alcoholic-liver), you will notice the whites of your eyes develop a foggy yellowish tint.  Your skin is likely to take on a pale yellowy glow.  You would likely be suffering frequent vomitting, inability to eat (no apetite), and you would be getting progressively exhausted.

I'm most certainly no doctor, but please accept my experiences and take my reply with a grain of salt.  I've experience similar to what you describe, so perhaps you may be experiencing what I did when I first tried to stop drinking cold turkey.

All the very best to you!  See your doctor, ask him to check your Lipase enzyme count from your pancreas, and for elevated enzyme production in the liver.  This could put your mind at ease.  If it's only fatty alcoholic liver disease, that can often be resolved by at least  30-days of complete abstinence from liquor.

    A sympathetic recovering alcoholic.

    Tambdy:

I can only address one part of your concern.... in regards to the pain on your left side... does it feel like the pain is both in the front, and around yourback on the left side?  When I had that pain - which just kept getting worse over the course of a few days, I went to hospital - and it was my pancreas.  My drinking gave me pancreatitis.  I do remember I simultaneously felt dull pains on my right side where you describe as well. Has you doctor checked your Lipase enzyme count in your blood tests to check for pancreatitis?
