I am on the lowest dose of simavstatin,and took myself off of them,my doctor does not seem to believe me,when i describe the symptom,s. I feel so ill i am frightened to take them,i wake up in the early hour's totaly disorianted,i am so mixed up,with realy weird nightmares that i cannot sleep or get the nightmare out of my head,it almost feel.s as if i am outside of my own body,i also have swollen inside of my mouth and lip.s,also my head feel's as it is going to burst.I have tried several times to come off of them,but it takes at least two nights for them to get out of my system,and i will certainly not be taking them again.smile

    I have been on simvastatin since I had a mini stroke 2 years ago and have experianced the same affects my cholesterol was 7.9 I have through a strick low fat diet go it down to 3.6 i wondered if my cholesterol will stay down with diet only as on reading some of the letter I feel I would be better coming off them but I am terrified i will have an other stroke I am also on medication for high blood pressure and aspirin sad sad

    Simvistatin was precribed for me last Friday. From day one I have had horrific frightening nightmares. I wasn't sure if this was because of Simvistatin as I'm also taking a calcium blocker. I know now it is this awful statin - I knew there could be side effects but no one - not even the information leaflet mentioned sleep disturbance and nightmares. I shall not be taking them again and am appauld that NICE recommend the cheapest form of statin with the knowledge of this terrible side effect - which by all accounts affects a very high percentage of people who take it.

    I started taking simvastatin 2 days ago and first night I woke up with my heart racing didn't know what was going on. The 2nd night I woke up and looked over at the clock it was 1am I fell back asleep for a few minutes and thought I saw snakes or somthing strange in my room. I leaped out of bed and looked around but didn't see anything. I did a search on google and found out it was this statin. Its made from a fungis and it said only 2 brands don't get into your brain as much. Pravachol and Crestor but all the others penitrate deep into the brain. It was like I dropped acid or mushrooms. Anyway i'm only taking it because my doctor thinks it's a good idea. I even told my uncle about it he is a doctor and he had no idea he said he had been suffering from insomnia for years and has been on lipitor all that time. I bet my doctor won't believe me but I'm not taking it. Doctors don't know everything that is why they call it a practice.
