I am out of my mind with worry

I'm 56 and have had irregular periods 9 months ago, including clotting

For the last 3 months I have not had a

Period as such, but first thing most mornings minimal spotting.  This is found when I first go to the loo.  Normally I would not see further spotting throughout the day.

My Dr has done an internal and found nothing.  She says this could be hormone inbalance.  I've been  prescribed Vagifem.  The spotting stopped for a week but has started again now.

Is anybody else in this same situation.  I really am so stressed about this.  I need a PAP smear in 3 months time which freaks me out because the pain is so intense for me during this time.  I have a low cervix.

Any advice would be appreciated.  Many thanks in advance xx

Are you seeing a gyn?  Under the circumstances, it might be a good idea to have an ultrasound done of your uterus, in order to measure the width of the uterine lining.  It seems to me that you would like your doctor to be more interested in what's going on than just giving you a pill and hoping it makes the bleeding go away.  I'm concerned about why the doctor would do a pelvic exam and then elect to wait to do a pap (unless it's because of your insurance).

I am due a smear anyway and my Dr prescribed vagifem in the hope that the smear will be less painful.

Okay.  I hope that your doctor orders an ultrasound for you.  If something is amiss, it can usually be sorted very quickly.  But, you need to find out what's going on. Best of luck to you and please let me know how you're doing. xx

Hi!  I had few years of irregular heavy bleeding along with the spotting.  My doctor prescribed progesterone to balance out my high estrogen.  My lining was constantly getting too thick.  Taking progesterone helped shed it at the proper intervals and not let it get too thick in the first place.  I still get regular pelvic ultrasounds to check on everything.  The pap smear is more for checking for certain types of cancer.  But if you have already had irregular bleeding and clotting..... probably your lining is not shedding properly since you are a good age to go into full menopause.  I have had years of spotting here and there and it so far has been nothing serious just part of the whole hormone imbalance.

I am 45 and have just been referred to a specialist because I was spotting between periods, sometimes after exercise. Go was convinced it's perimenopause but an ultrasound found what they think is a polyp and also a fibroid.

Can I just say, I was worried sick about the ultrasound but (in case you haven't had one before), it didn't hurt at all. Nothing like smear tests and the probe was not much bigger than a tampon.

Let us know how you get on and try not to worry (Although I cried my eyes yesterday just thinking about my forthcoming hospital visit).

    Xx
