I am scared because of an 17cm ovarian cyst

I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst 17cm big. My GP sent me to gynecologist and they told me I need an MRI. I have an appointment with a surgeon in 5 days . When they gave me the appointment for the MRI they told me they have to do it on me on the third week of my period so If my period come I had to tell them so that they can reschedule it. My MRI is in two days but my period has arrived. I don't know what to do. I phoned the surgeon office and his secretary couldn't help me telling me that since they did not sent me for MRI she can't tell me weather to reschedule it or not. So I suppose my doctor told me to have an MRI since she need tho show the results to the surgeon. I am 21 years old . I am scary of this whole situation and I don't know what to do. Does anybody know why do they have to do the MRI on the third week of the period? Thank you so much for your help

Hi Hilary, sorry to hear about your situation. Do they know the nature of the cyst? Mine is 12cm, and they're still trying to figure out if it's a dermoid or a fibroid.

Regarding rescheduling the appointment, I spent all day on Fri, Mon, and Tue trying to get an appointment to see a consultant because the specialist who diagnosed me said she'd like to see me on Wed. The admin are useless, they are not helpful. My advice is to be persistent and skip the main receptionist admin if they are not trying to help. Try to ring the MRI receptionist instead.

May I ask which NHS trust you're under?

Thanks and hope you will sort it out soon.

Thank you so much for your help. They still don't know the nature of the cyst. And I am in Swizterland not in the UK but I joined this forum since I found out much more information in English rather in my own language
