I have had a thyroid noodle for about two years now. Now I have a serious pain in the neck leading to my left arm, a sore throat, headache and feel feverish sometimes. Just read about some symptoms of thyroid cancers and am scared I may be suffering from one. Will see my doctor tomorow. Can thyroid cancers be treated? Help please..

Thyroid cancers can definitely be treated.  My cousin had one that was misdiagnosed initially and then had treatment for it by radiation and surgery.  That was about 10 years ago.  She takes Synthroid thryoid hormone replacement now.  The good thing about thyroid cancers unlike other cancers is that they are usually contained.

Hello mys, I known exacly how you are feeling. Some years ago I had treatment for Graves disease I had  noduals in my throat a very hoarse voice difficulty in swallowing. I also had pains in my neck and arm, my heart was racing I lost a great deal of weight. Like you I thought the worse I was put on Carbmozle for a few weeks but only made matters worse. I then had Radioactive iodine treatment which saved my life. I still have noduals in my throat and difficulties swallowing the occasional pain in my left arm and neck which I think is due to heart damage caused because my usual GP did not reconising  that my problem was an overactive thyroid. I will be 70 in a few days and have to take thyroxine every day and a heart pill. I am grateful to the doctor who saw me after my own doctor was off ill. If you can take someone with you, read up all you can and ask lots and lots of questions. My mother also had thryroid and had her thryroid was removed in her early forties. Ask to see a specialist I know it is difficult when you are feeling so ill, thats why either my husband or my sister came to my appointments with me.  Two years is a long time to put up with all this discomfort. regards Jacky

Thanks for the words of encouragement Alberta. I saw my Dr today. Everything seemed just right. Did my thyroid function and it was ok. Went to see the ENT specialist to see what was wrong with my throat. There is a sore but he said it had nothing to do with my thyroid noodle. He said I was suffering from tonsollitis. My neck pain according to the family physician might be a strain in the muscles. I have been put on naproxen and lorazepam to get me relaxed for a while. I also have some medication for the sore throat. I have some more labs to do though to check my sugar and cholesterol. I hope all goes well. Thanks once again.

Hello mys, I am glad you are feeling happier now you have seen the Dr. Sometimes our minds run away with us and we always think the worse. Only you know your own body. I thought I was going crazy I was eating for 10 people and losing weight daily, I went down to 5 stone all of my bones ached, heart racing so much it looked as though I had Parkinsons disease. My original Dr. said I was going through the change. Her partner diagnosed Graves disease as soon as he saw me and I was at the hospital the next day. I was advised to make a daily diary to take my blood pressure every day and record BP heart rate and pulse. The reason I thought cancer was I had constant diarrhoea. Sore throuts can be caused my many things even cleaners I found one brand of cheap bleach caused me to have sore throat. Quite a few of my family members have  thyroid problems and most complain of a pain in the neck. I cant wear roll or crew neck jumpers as I feel as if I am being throttled, probably all in my mind. When my throat is sore I have a tablespoonful of Drambuie with added honey this seems to coat my throat and help with the soreness.  I would think any whiskey and honey would have the same effort. I hate spirits of any kind but it works for me. We are not all the same and Dr.s refer to text books and what they have seen before, once again dont be afraid to ask questions, write them down and take to the appointment with you.   Hope you feel better soon Jacky

Hi Jacky, thanks for the re-assurance. Yes am relieved knowing I do not have cancer yet but am still going through the neck pain even though am judiciously taking my medications. Food particles still get stuck in my throat and I still have the tension headaches. I just started the medicine anyway so I hope it gets better by the fifth day. The pain leading to my left arm is getting unbearable and I pray it gets better soon. Am going off alcohol and caffeine completely and start some serious exercise to see if it can help. I have family history of diabetes and so the Drs advices I still shed some weight even though I weigh 69 now. Regards.
