Hello everyone..

I am a 23 years old. Now a days m very depressed due to my bp. First Let me tell you my weakness. My main waekness is when i get into clinic i get nervous. Especially when they check my bp i get so much nervous that my heart beats very fast. In 2016 i was ill (palpitations) and consult to cardiologist he checked my bp. At that time bp was 150/90. I told him that m so nervous. He told me your high bp reading is due to nervousness. Again in 2017 i was ill ( abdominal pain) nd consult to medical specialist. He checked my bp which was 160/100. Also at that time i was so much nervous. He told me that you have hypertension. From that day i am so worried that i bought a manual bp ket and start checking my bp. Bp readings are 130/80, 130/85, 125/80, 135/80 and some times 140/85.

Another cardiologist told me that in this age these readings are ok and are not considered as hypertension.. Now i want to know that i have hypertension or not??

I am so worried and depressed since 2016. Please someone help me in getting out of this depression..

Thanks.

It doesn't sound to me like you have hypertension - however - to remove all doubt, ask your GP for a 24 hour blood pressure monitor. This will give you all a much better look at what's happening with your BP.

And try not to take your blood pressure too often, as it will only increase your anxiety!

      Thank you for your response.

My main problem is my anxiety which increase my bp.

First of all Hassan your BP readings taken by yourself are all acceptable indeed I would be happy to have readings like yours.  You say your depression is down to you being worried about your hypertension but are you sure that’s the only cause? You must try and stop thinking about it because it will only make matters worse. Easier said than done I know. Put aside a time each day to go for a nice relaxing walk, see friends etc just to take your mind off things but more importantly talk to someone about your worries. If you can’t see your doctor then visit the surgery’s practice nurse. You may find you don’t become as nervous if you are seeing the nurse.

M sure that worry and anxiety is the cause. Because when i check my bp at home it always less than taken by doctor. And whenever i check my bp by someone else i get nervous. I checked by nurse sometimes in local pharmacy and clinics. Readings were 130/90 and 125/85.

Also main problem is i don't walk and haven't did any exercise for last 5 months.

Hi Hassan suffering from chronic anxiety is very difficult.   I have had this difficulty since I was. Very young.    It has 8mpacted on my life but for large parts of it, my life has been very happy.     A lot of people’s anxiety goes back to childhood, in my case my mum was a very difficult lady, she probably had undiagnosed mental health problems.    There was a lack of security in my childhood, I was always very watchful and vigilant, I never knew when she would blow then all hell was let loose.

I never realised any any of this until I went for bereavement counsellingn2 years ago.  The counsellor asked me had Zi ever suffered from anxiety.   After some thought I gradually realised that I had, most of my adult life.

she helped me understand why I suffered from anxiety and gave me coping strategies.   This has helped me enormously and my life is much more content.

your blood pressure is ok, everyone’s blood pressure goes up and down.   It’s the anxiety that has to be tackled.    Have you had any help in tackling this?

Hassan, I agree with the others that have said your blood pressure is not hypertension. When you are taking your blood pressure on your own monitor, you are more relaxed, so your blood pressure is in a much better range than when taken at your doctor's office.

Since the office setting seems to give you so much anxiety, go in to the office with a different mindset. Before walking in the door, maybe while in your car...relax and take 3 or 4 slow, deep breaths. Think to yourself that it's going to be okay no matter what...because it actually will be. No matter what your blood pressure is, you are taking care of yourself and You've Got This!!! Know that! Convince yourself of that!

When you go in confident that you've got this, when the doctor or nurse pumps up the blood pressure machine, what's the worst that could happen? High numbers like the last time you were there? Those actually came down at home, so just don't let the doctor's office setting get into your mind. Make the choice beforehand that you've got this, and you know what to do to fix this if the numbers are high in the office.

Your mind is playing a game with you. Win that game.

I used to have this issue even when I took my own blood pressure back when I had just learned that it was going very high. Wrapping the cuff around my arm I would get very nervous, until I learned to play this mind game my body insisted on playing with me. I knew that if the numbers were high, I could do something like take the slow deep breaths in, slow deep breaths out, 4 times each, and it would help relax.

If the numbers were still higher than I liked, I'd have a bowl of oatmeal with raisins & cinnamon (this is great for working on the numbers from within). Or a couple pieces of celery (it relaxes the blood vessels and lets the blood flow more freely.) In any case, when you know there are things you can do, all you need is the information of what the numbers are to set yourself into action and bring the numbers down to where you want them. Make sure you're getting enough sleep, and drinking enough water. The water makes the blood a bit thinner, so it moves through the blood vessels easier.

I hope this helps you! And remember...you've got this!
