I am so scared re blood tests

Posted , 5 users are following.

so i have been getting lots of tingling in hands amd arms and feet mainly and spoke with doctor yesterday who reffered me for urgent blood tests. he said the blood tests he needed to check were for my calcium levels that’s what he was concerned about and it fits the bill with hypocalcemia I’ve just googled it and had a massive panic attack in the night.

the worst bit it mentions seizures and i already have a massive fear of this.

i am in such a bad way as i am pretty convinced my bloods will come back with low calcium and i am going to have a seizure.

it even says hypocalcemia severe symptom is numbness and tingling

If its low it's no big deal your not going to have seizure. Anorexics and bulimics rarely have seizures why would you?? And they starve themselves!!

hi K8 appreciate your message but confused by the message as unsure how it is related to anorexia and bulemia. i am talking about tingling and numbness in arms, hands and feet. low calcium which is called hypocalcemia which says tingling is a severe symptom and this condition can lead to seizures.

i thought we talked about staying away from doctor google? Nothing good can come from you trying to diagnose yourself. Why not wait for the blood tests to come back and then go from there. You will have much more information to go on once the blood tests come back and so will your doctor. Let him do his job and stop guessing, its only going to make your anxiety worse. Take a break from worrying, you DO NOT have some dibilitating disease, you are NOT going to die. You dont have a brain tumour or cancer. I doubt you have anything but residual effects from taking Doxycycline. And if its not that, i am betting its nothing serious. You are young and your body is strong and resilient. So stop creating drama in your own head. Please, please, just wait until the bloodwork comes back and the doctor tells you his findings and when it turns out to be something simple like poor circulation or side effects from doxycycline, your mind will be put at ease. If not, you can go see Dr. Google as much as you wish.

tingling has gone worse and really worried now. i wish i was young but thank you david but i am 39 years old and i honestly believe that this time i have a problem. this tingling does not seem right. i dont think it is connected but a couple of weeks ago while i had a bad chest and i cough hard a couple of times and felt spasm pain on my right side of neck so i wonder if i have caused damage to neck artery in my neck or brain inflammation.

all i know is i am anticipating bad news that i am going to be diagnosed with one of the below conditions.

      diabetes

      MS

      Brain Tumor

      Hypocalcemia

      Hypoparathyroidsm

      seizures

please also note that i suffer with psoriasis

Look, you can consume yourself with worry until the bloodwork comes back and make your anxiety worse, or you can wait for the doctor to tell you whats wrong and go from there. Even if your self diagnosis are correct, what can you do about it ? Nothing ! So again you have to wait for the doctors help. So stop over thinking this, you are NOT going to die. You are only 39 and you have a long life ahead of you. You are worrying about stuff you have no control over. I doubt you have any of those ailments you mentioned. Its most probably a Vitamin deficiency (calcium) or the infection you were on Doxycycline for, has not gone away. Go with the simplest explanations first and if that doesnt prove to be the case, then you can doom and gloom it. So lets wait and see what tale the blood work tells us and lets not worry until then. okay?

" i honestly believe that this time i have a problem".

"i wonder if i have caused damage to neck artery in my neck or brain inflammation."

" i am anticipating bad news"

"i am going to be diagnosed with one of the below conditions".

    diabetes

"MS ( my aunt had this and lived a very long happy life )

Brain Tumor ( my daughters friend had this and also my niece had this. They are both doing extremely well today. That was over 16 years ago )

    Hypocalcemia ( very treatable )

    Hypoparathyroidsm ( very treatable)

    seizures" ( very well-managed with medication )

Jonathan if you notice the pattern, everything that you are saying is negative. it becomes a pattern of thinking. That kind of thinking recycles over and over in your brain. If you don’t break the pattern, your life is just going to be pure misery. And yes, you are still a young man and you can reverse this cycle of negativity and fear.

David is absolutely correct in his response to you. Please read it over again. I’ve been through this and like I told you before, it is so not worth it!

And like my daughter told me, and so what if I have a condition that I’m worried about? Things are not always in our control and you deal with it the best you can. there are people with all sorts of conditions. There are people who have had cancer for 25 years. Or more. there are children that unfortunately die every day. And so on. It’s just part of life. you deal with it.

We have to be grateful for what we have. You have life. There’s no proof that anything is seriously wrong with you. You have to take one day at a time. Smell the roses.

I dont know if you are spiritual at all but this life is not our final home. This is a temporary home and we are on a journey. That’s where faith comes in.

What my daughter said helped snapped me out of my fearful thinking. And now I can live peacefully and enjoy every day and be grateful. .

When The other person that responded to you mentioned people with bulimia, they meant that they have very low levels of calcium and don’t necessarily have seizures. I had a friend in college who was bulimic and all her labs were off including very low calcium and she never once had a seizure. And she lived with this for 30 years.! people can live with all kinds of conditions for many many years. So relax.

I left out diabetes. If you had it at this point it would be type two diabetes which is very treatable and can actually be reversed. Millions of people live with this and you just have to take care of yourself and follow doctor‘s orders. We have to face the fact that there are conditions that people get and that’s just the way it is. We have to make the best of it by taking care of ourselves in many times we can reverse conditions. Take care

Jan, my gut feeling is that he has no debilitating disease or even diabieties. His doctor seems to have gone straight for the calcium deficiency, and he/she knows Jonathan better than us. Jonathan seems to like Dr. Google and is freaking himself out with self diagnosis. So we have to stop him from doing that until the doctor has his bloodwork in hand and can assess the situation. I do think you always give great advice and this forum is very lucky to have you. Keep up the good work. And in case no one has told you.... Thank you

Thank you very much for your support DAVID AND JAN.

Had my bloods back today and all come back normal so very happy. he didnt know what is causing it he said if it persists then they may look to do some neurological tests. (poss for MS)

he had to look into doxycycline side effects and said maybe but he would have thought that would have lefty system by now.

he mentioned anxiety and hyperventilating can cause tingling but i have to disagree with me as i am breathing normally and not having an anxiety attack its just constant tingling.

Delighted that results are good just dont know what it is annoyingly

Very happy your blood work came back normal. See i told you there was nothing to worry about. I am sorry he could not figure out why your hands are tingling. I researched the hell out of your symptoms too, and residual effects of the doxycycline and coming off of it fits best. I dont think you have MS, your eyes would hurt, you would have tremors (shaking), your muscles would be cramping, you would have difficulty walking, dizziness, muscle spasms and a long list of other symptoms you do not have, with exception of the tingly hands. Its possible you have a circulation problem with blood not getting to your hands. I would suggest drinking lots of water to thin your blood a bit, and going for walks or runs, bike rides, just any type of excercise to get the heart pumping and the blood circulating better. I mean try it, could not hurt. But drink lots of water, take two Ibruprofen or asprin every day for a week, it thins the blood and makes it easier to flow. Try this, it will not hurt you and it may solve the problem. Or you can spend the money for a neuroligist who probably will find nothing wrong with you as well. But thats up to you, safer than sorry is probably better. But i would try what i said first, see if it works, if it doesnt, you still have an appointment with the neurologist, and no love lost.

one of three choices. call you doctor GP, go to the ER and get tests done today, or wait to see a specialist. I think you could be correct though, its been too long and you should be feeling better by now. I would try option A first, call you doctor and see what he says, and see if he can refer you to a specialist (he will know who to refer you to) and if you cant wait to see the specialist (it usually takes months to get in), then just go to the ER and let them figure it out. Question, have you been drinking copius amounts of water and some type of excersise like i said, to get the blood flowing? It most likely is a vitamin deficiency or a circulation problem, may be low blood pressure. i had that experience as a kid, only the tingling was also in my feet. Feet were always cold and my hands too. But a pill the doctor gave me, took care of the low blood pressure problem. You have anxiety and you probably have higher blood pressure because of it, so i am going with either some type of dehydration, vitamin deficiency or circulation issue. But call your doctor first, get a referral to specialist, then go to ER for dome tests. If you are proactive and working to solve this problem, your anxiety should get better as you are keeping your head busy trying to get to the bottom of this. But for the love of god, stay the heck away from Dr. Google, no matter how hard it is to not look crap up.

so in your opinion david what do you think it probably is??

      Brain tumor?

      MS?

      Cancer?

nothing that serious. Some type of blood circulation problem, dehydration, vitamin deficiency, or at the very worse, nerve damage. I remember when i was a kid and had low blood pressure and my hands would tingle, the doctor had me do windmills with my arms to increase blood flow to my hands. You may want to try this. I assume you know what windmills are? Also, asprin thins the blood and makes blood flow better. They tell heart attack patients to take asprin each day to prevent blood clots. I think you are going to have to hang in there. i know its hard, hell, if it were me, i would have already been at the local ER bitching up a storm until they found me some answers, but thats me and i have a low threshold for pain and feeling uncomfortable because it sets my panic off.
