I am taking 80mg of Furosemide seems much to much

Posted , 2 users are following.

Two years ago due to very painful swollen legs I was perscribed a diurectic 40mgs of Furosemide (Lasix) and they have worsened more than ever since.

A full blood test reveals low potassium levels only. . My GP has increased the diurectic to 80mg, Wow... I think this is a huge amount and it scares the hell out of me .

My GP has prescribed me a potassium effervescent supplement for 10 days.

I have eaten bananas , dates etc most days and drink loads of water daily for years. I walk daily too. Why is this happening too me?

Hallo again Pat.Glad to see you went back to your doctor. You have persistent oedema and 80 mg is the normal starting dose...it can be increased if the oedema doesnt show any signs of reducing. Its impossible to say why this is happening to you but it could be your genetics. Did your Mother/Father/ Grandmother etc have this sort of problem? Do you have any brothers or sisters with the same problem. Did you or anyone in your family have any kidney problems? You are dong all the right things but you must keep in touch with your doctor so that you can be monitored .

      Hi Marina Dee.

      Thanks for your kind help

After tests my GP seems to have no idea why....

I am not aware of any oedema or kidney problems with the family.

A few years ago I went private to London and had my kidneys and heart investigated and was cleared of any problems.

I was on 4mgs of Doxozosin for High BP which dropped my BP as low as 89/ 59 now I'm on 1mg and it seems to be working though I know it to be a bad drug.

I find 80mgs of diurectic furosemide does dry me out despite my fluid intake.

I don't seem to pee as much as I would like. I dread the thought of any more drugs as I'm sensitive to medications.

      Thanks again
