I Broke the cycle of Itching, please try this

I have been suffering from pruritis ani for about 3-4 years now and I truly thought I would never ever get rid of it! I had tryed every cream, ointment, treatment that I could. I researched new treatments online all the time, I even tried taking an oral treatment that tasted really disgusting, but it did nothing. A doctor that been helping me with this condition the past couple of years even consulted with many other specialists for me, ones that specialized in rectal conditions and they would just come up with the same things. But one thing she did recommend was trying ice treatments which played a huge part in my recovery. So here is what I did. I decided to try an aggressive treatment of hydrocortisone ointment, which they dont really recommend long term. Now ,I used the ointment not the cream. For those of you that suffer from this, we know the worst time is at night. So the first night of treatment, when I was itching really bad, I used an ice pack , it was kind of weird but I was willing to try it, I was desperate to get rid of the itching. You will want to cover your ice pack with a wash cloth. Then do the ice for about 10 -20 minutes. Then apply the hyrocortisone ointment. You will want to do this right before you go to sleep. Don't give in to scratching. Then I took a sleep aid. Tylenol PM will work, but if you have Ambion even better.

That was the first night. It worked really good, I had to really use extreme self control though, because I was still itchy.

Then of course you will want to use wipes, I just used the Charmin ones. Use those after every bowel movement. Then I applied the hydro cortisone ointment 4 times a day for 7-10 days, that was my plan. So the second night, I did the same thing, ice treatment, sleeping aid, ointment. Also, it helps to take a warm shower or bath before going to bed, and never use soap, just water.

So I got through the second day, still feeling itchy but I was determined to not scratch. Also, get some of those finger cots when applying the ointment so you dont use your finger nails at all by accident. I get them at the drug store, in the bandaid section.

Then something amazing started happening the 3rd day. I realized I was not feeling very itchy, the 3rd night , I did not need ice or sleeping aid. I was so relieved and excited . I can't tell you the sense of relief I was feeling. This condition had been torturing me for so long, I did not remember what it felt like to not have to think about scratching and the relentless itch. It was really starting to effect me.

I kept up with the 3-4 times a day ointment for a little beyond a week. Then I started tapering off using it. What I replaced it with was just pure lanolin cream and applied that at night to help heal all the broken skin. That is working really well. You can use it during the day too if needed.

The days that followed were awesome, not itching, relief, I couldnt believe it. It was working! After 7-10 days no itching at all! Amen !

I am still being really diligent with using wipes instead of toilet paper, prob for along time. YOu have to be careful leave any fecal matter to irritate that skin down there. Only blot and dab, no rubbing. I will use the lanolin for awhile too. Because its been going on so long, I figure I need some time to heal. And I will dab a little hydrocortisone if absolutely needed.

I hope this works for alot of you out there that I have been reading about suffering from this ridiculous, relentless, torturous itch!

It has worked for me and I feel like a new person. It has been now almost 2 weeks since I have felt the urge to scratch, the longest in 3 years. And for those of you that have this, that is a big deal.

I will post updates and let you know if this a longterm cure. Its working for me! This is the most normal I have felt in a long time. Its an undescribable relief!!!!

Benadryl gel saved me during the itchy parts, it's a huge help, keeps me from itching and causing futher damage. Wash, dry and then apply, coat the inside of the rim some too but not too deep. Psyllium Fiber will help too, you can usually get a generic (make sure to follow directions) I use once a day after dinner. I take a regular 12 oz bottle of water, dump out 2 or 3 ounces then carefully pour in 1 teaspoon of the fiber, shake well then drink. It tastes like cardboard but is drinkable. It will not give you diarrhea, even though it says it's a laxative. It binds things together. I was having movements like peanut butter, very sticky, took a whole roll of TP to get feeling clean. The very day I started taking the fiber, BAM I had soild movments, so clean I could get by with one tiny sheet of TP. If you have sticky movments I also recommend an enima (at home) to clean the lower intestants, that helped me on day one. I no longer have the rash and sandpaper feeling around the anus, very smooth but still get the itching so times. I'm going to try diet for that, cutting out all dairy products starting today. In the men time the Benadryl gel keeps me sane. Hope that helps....I was a sufferer for about 1 year.

After suffering with anal itching for about six months, my relief came in an unexpected and almost unrelated way.

The initial cause of my concern came from having recurring and persistent loose stools. The resulting anal 'leakage', when left unchecked, aggravated the area around my anus, causing the itch. I was able to manage the condition by gentle cleaning (water only with a hand shower) and applying thereafter a well-known, UK-made, nappy rash cream that formed a protective layer around the anus and prevented the leakage from contacting the skin.

I needed, though, to find a cause and a cure for my loose stools. To that end, I turned to the internet and discovered that, as a middle-aged man who drank a couple of glasses of wine every night, I could have, over time, developed an intolerance/allergy to achohol or perhaps the sulfites in the wine itself. So, I decided to stop drinking alchohol as an experiment. And, seeing as it was New Year, I threw in a couple more resolutions and gave up eating refined sugar and bread, pasta, biscuits, chips, etc for good measure.

Guess what? In just over a week, my 'diarroea' stopped completely and the itching eased off almost immediately. Furthermore, I feel simply fantastic... face is way less puffy, joints don't ache and I have lost 4 and a half pounds without exercising any more than I normally do.

I'm not necessarily advocating that this is a cure for everybody but would recommend it to those prepared to consider it as an alternative approach. It certainly worked for me!

That's fabulous Jason!  I did similar many years ago with cutting out a few things to see if would help with rheumatoid arthritis - as I was way too young to be suffering with that!  My mum n grandma also had it quite badly.  It COMPLETELY resolved by cutting out wheat, bananas, milk products and acidic /salicylate foods like tomatoes, wine, lemons etc.  My rheumatologist on my return after 6 weeks was stunned when I told her what I'd done, as she said she now would not diagnose me with Rheumatoid Arthritis, the improvement was so significant.  Yay for you!  I'm sure for me with the itching it's goat's cheese.  It's ok if I don't have too much though.  I just don't want to give it up!!  'o)

      Well done you!

After 40 years of itching I cured myself. Itch free for the last 5 years. Long story on how I found this product but it worked for me. A bidet. The 1st one I got was at lowes called a go bidet for 99 dollars it attached to my toilet. That was 5 years ago. After I go to the bathroom I give myself a good power wash. When I'm clean as a wissle. I use paper towels to dab myself dry. Never wipe never use toilet paper . It works try it , it will change your life. I have one in both of my bathrooms. The last one I got was from a company called squatty potty. They had a refresh it bidet for only 40 dollars and real easy to install.  Just trying to give back to others that suffered like me.

This worked for me too! Thank you for posting! I suffered for 2 years with the itch, had no idea what it was from... I thought I had pin worms, then a nerve issue, but turns out just a really bad "diaper" rash. Was too rough with the TP I guess... I used Desitin, ice and baby wipes. Kept it clean, kept it covered with the Desitin and used the ice the first couple nights to calm the itch. 3-4 days later, BOOM. Done. Cured. Thanks again!

    Hi,

Had the same problem with itchy butt. Went to docs and found out I had dermatitis / excma on and around my anal buttocks. This I believe through research that I got this problem through stress very stressful times and from wearing my pants too tight... also I was not wearing cotton underwear or pants.,.. which you should do... allows freash air to breeze through around your airless buttocks.

The Best thing to do is let the doc check your buttocks. Yes embrassing but well forth it.

    Good luck

    Hi,

I have also had this problem on and off for years. I thought it came with having pets though I could never find any sign of beasties anywhere. I came to learn, like most of you, to not give in to the temptation to scratch as it makes the itchiness escallate. I also learnt that washing the area and applying cream (I use sudocreme) immediately was key to fewer days of discomfort and agony.

I haven't noticed a link to diet, but will keep a note of this in the future.

However, one think I have noticed, is that I seem to get an outbreak if I wear an item of clothing that I haven't worn for a while (say 3months plus) even though it was washed since I wore it last. I would really be interested to know if anyone else has noticed this?

I hope you found a cure that works for you. Best thing I ever did was install a bidet on my toilet, that was my cure. I purchased a bio-bidet on Groupon, I think it was around $30 bucks with shipping. Pretty easy to install too. I urge people who have a little success with other methods, dietary changes, creams, ointments, etc... I tried all that and nothing worked, suffered from pain and intense itch for over a year before I discovered this cure. Good luck

I FOUND THE SOLUTION TO MY 5 YEAR ITCHY BUTT RECENTLY, AND I WANT TO SHARE MY SOLUTION IN CASE IT HELPS EVEN ONE PERSON.

I had considered everything during the past 5 years fighting this battle -- not wiping enough, wiping too much, gluten allergy, soy allergy, dairy allergy, worms, IBS etc etc. I had gone to a dermatologist several times, and a gastro doctor as well. I finally found my solution after going to an allergy doctor (the doctor didnt even figure out the solution, I did).

The allergy doctor ran tests on me and found out that I was allergic to Fragrance Mix (commonly found in soaps, body washes, shampoos, etc.). Previous to this test, I had not known this because I used soaps and body washes every day to shower with and had never had any problems. HOWEVER, when I wipe my butt after a bowel movement, the wiping causes the area to become extremely sensetive (especially if the toilet paper is cheap). Then the sensative area is exposed to the fragrance mix during a shower, and so the aversive effects start. After this initial exposure, every wipe and bowel movement and shower thereafter would just perpetuate the cycle. My solution -- use soft toilet paper to not irritate the area (i dab the toilet paper with mineral oil to get a nice soft clean), and use fragrance free soap in the shower. It worked for me, after fighting for years and searching for a solution.

TLDR; I have an allergy to fragrance mix that I never knew about (maybe you do, too). Wiping my ass caused the skin on my anus to be sensative. When I'd shower, the fragrance mix in the soap would come in contact with the sensative area, and cause my itchy butt! Solution -- soft toilet paper, and fragrance free soap. Even if you don't think you have an allergy to fragrance mix, maybe you do! I didn't think I had the allergy either.

It seems like such an easy fix, but it took years to figure it out. I really hope I can help even just one person by posting this, i know how much this problem sucks.

Oh my word. Thank you. I've had constant itch in the perineal area and rectal areas for seven months straight, and it gets worse by the day. I want to scratch my skin off and fear that I will never be able to be with aam again. I need to reapply cream every 1.5 hours. This is extremely difficult to pull off bc of my work and because I work at a place where the only bathrooms are public stall group individual stalls.

I put on cream every time; I also have a hemorrhoid I've had for 7 mo. I almost scream every time I apply cream. My doc gave me some lidocaine cream that works for about 1.5 hours. Also am using diaper rash cream.  The creams leak through my underwear and ruin them and mark up my pants, so I have to wear maxi pads or pantiliners where I apply creams.

I've written down the things everyone has been saying.

I don't have a doc yet bc I loved and don't have health ins right now.

    Please help me!

I HAVE to share this with you all! I suffered for nearly a year with pruritus ani. It started at the end of my pregnancy with my third baby. And continued. It seemed linked to my cycle every month and would get worse during ovulation but who knows why.

I’ve been to two proctologists, a general surgeon, gps, my Gynae and FINALLY my dermatologist has helped. I have tears in my eyes and I cannot believe that I’m ok! It’s only been a week but it feels like a lifetime! I’ve tried every cream: anusol, scheriproct, proctosedyl (which helped a bit), healing natural oils, sudocrem, I had cut out sugar and gluten. You name it I’ve tried it.

My dermatologist was horrified that I had suffered for almost a year. Said it’s unacceptable that I haven’t been helped properly. He prescribed Lotriderm - a cream to put on in the morning and at night for seven days. And it has cured me!!!!!!! I am over the moon and had to share this with you all. Wish I could personally tell every person suffering with this awful condition. I spent nights crying in desperation to find a cure. And this has been it.

One week & gone! This is Not topical!! Its's in your blood & bacterial. Pro biotics, I do not take. I thought oh I'll try that 1st. But I heard if you stop taking

them you could get really sick. So I opted for 'Garlique' which makes your breath smell & burping it is no fun either. But the itching started going away!

Bought prep H wipes, walgreens Certainty wipes w/aloe (more like a mini towel you can pull between front & back) & baby wipes non scented.

Once the Garlique wore off, itching was comibg back. So..... back to walgreens vitamin counter. Bought Natures own (since no wheat, soy, etc) Garlic pills

2000mg. I took one before breakfast, one before dinner. Ten days later & no itch. I stopped taking it, no repercussions!

Interesting! I can’t seem to find the Natures own garlic pills online... I’d be willing to do that anyway!
