I cannot sleep no matter how hard I try. Losing my mind.

I was diagnosed with having a manic depressive episode recently and since then I have made great progress. I am no longer in freak out mode if you will. However this week I have not been able to sleep AT ALL, and now my anxiety about not being able to sleep is making it even harder to sleep. The sleep issues came out of nowhere and I don't know what to do about them. Any advice that isn't listening to nature sounds. Anyone take anything for these issues that I could ask my doctor about.

    Hello,

I'm glad you're better from your manic depressive episode.

I take a very low dose of Mirtazapine for sleeping and it has been a Godsend, but above all consult with your doctor as you have other issues going on and I presume you already take medication for that. But yeah, I had terrible insomnia and now I sleep like a log but wake up ok.

    Best of luck!

hi mate you're definitely not alone, I'm currently having a bout of insomnia aswell, I'm exhausted all day and all I want to do is sleep, get in to bed and then I'm wide awake, I have anxiety issues so I think it's from that

Yes, I did have entire nights without sleeping. And my general average was 2-3 hours. 15mg of Mirtazapine has solved the problem, low dose Mirt helps sleep without the hangover.

If your doctor and you decide to go down this route I recommend starting at the weekend because the first 2-3 days I could not get out of bed, I was floored.

insomnia has been a life time issue. i have had better results with listening to music, stories or biography's on my ipad earphones than any medication prescribed in the past. in my experience once sleep/anxiety meds prescribed then a higher dose is needed because the brain always adjusts to origional dose.

You say in your title "no matter how hard you try" you are aware that the more one "tries" to sleep the less you will sleep. You have to remind yourself that even if you don't sleep as long as you rest you will be ok.

By truly adopting a "doesn't matter if I don't sleep" attitude, it will slowly come back to you.
