Hi, I have suffered from blepharitis for 2 years now.

I have been having problems with my eyes when i wake for the last 6 months.

Sometimes the one eye, sometimes both.

I feel as though im tearing my eyes apart when I try to open them.

I have used eyedrops to no avail. Has anyone experieced similiar symptoms or have any remedies that could help?

Hi, yes likewise my eyes are stuck together of a morning. The hospital say I have blepharitis, (though the optician thought it wasn't..! ). I find lacri-lube ointment to be far more effective than eye drops at night. Eye drops are ok during the day but at night they had little effect. I mentioned this to the registrar at the hospital and he prescribed me some lacri-lube ointment.

The only downside to the ointment is that you have to clean your eyes in the morning, as it leaves them quite gooey.

Dry eye syndrome is very common running alongside blepharitis.

I couldn't get on with lacrilube but there's find it helpful. I keep Hylo Forte drops next to my bed and use them as soon as I wake.

its worth trying a few eye lubricants to find the one that suits you best.

hi Kaz. Very similar experiences for me. I have bought an eye pad from the Internet which you warm up and wear for 5 to 7 minutes, and it is very soothing for me in a morning.

my cleansing routine has to be rigid, however I can get up some mornings and my eyes are very sore.

Lots of ideas from people on this forum. Hope you find one to suit you

Thanks for your advice, i use a mini hotwater bottle wrapped in a clean dry flannel. I think i will change to an eye pad as it would be a constant safe temperature !

    Hi Kaz,

I too have Blepahritis, and sometimes my eyes are sticky in the morning. I assumed it was too much eye drops in the evening, but maybe not. However, something else to consider - my husband used to wake up with his eye glued shut, this turned out to be an allergy and he now is clear of it. Pop along to your GP. It is easy to assume that everything is to do with the Bleph, but just maybe it isn't?? Good luck and I hope you get some relief very soon.

Thank you Elaine. I will keep this in mind about your hubbys allergy ! I will give the potions a go first and if no success I will go down GP route. ( last time i went there the GP prescribed me chloramphenicol eye drops and ointment, this made little difference) hence me joining the forum for tips from fellow sufferers !!
