I developed a cold a day after tonsillectomy. Does it affect surgery recovery?

Hi everyone. I underwent tonsillectomy yesterday, and I heard drinking cool or cold drinks helps with pain relief. What I didn't know is that after drinking a bottle of apple juice with ice today, I began to feel really cold and feverish. Should I take common cold medicine? Does it prolong the recovery process? Thank you.
