2 days ago I went in for the thr posterior.  Now home, hardest part now is husband lifting legs to slide me in bed. And getting back up again. Also took some oxicodone   and now  constipated . Nurse said prune juice and apple juice.  Using the Roller thing , pain in back of hip , can't look at it yet lol

I am 12 days post op. Anterior though but same issutge 1st few days. So hard getting in bed without hurting. I had to go off pain meds at day 7 because I was so nauseated, had severe migraine and horribly constipated. Within a day of being off, those problems solved. Once you get thru tht 1st week, it does get easier! Wishing u a speedy recovery. Andi didn't want to look at incision either, but bandage came off Friday so I had to look and it wasn't b ad!

    Zak,

I only had the oxicodone in hospital for a couple of days and refused it when I left hospital but I still had contsipation on and off for a week and felt sick for a couple of days. I take magnesium, it makes a lot of people go to the toilet.

    Hi hun

Keep strong and get some movement going or your knee will stop working as mine did. You should be able to get in and out of bed yourself. Slide yourself use your arm strength even get a bag to slide but you shouldn't need help to do that. Didnt the hospital show you how to do it? The only thing you might need help with is showering and socks and shoes. Excluding house work of course don't do any house work just yet. I hope you can prepare some food using your perching stool? Let me know x

Everyone’s different - so needing help getting out of bed sounds perfectly what’s expected.  In fact for me my leg was so heavy and kinda dead moving or sliding for a good 2 weeks and I needed help all during that time and you should get help so you don’t move incorrectly getting in and out of bed.  I’m at week 4 now and all the motor strength is back.  So just be patient.  The beginning can be hard but it all sorts out and you’ll be feeling fine in a short time with different improvements surprising you everyday.

All of this is a process where you will constantly see new changes and along the way.

I dropped the narcotics very quickly too and used Tylenol to take the edge off round the clock  until I saw I didn’t need it any more.

You’ll be good in no time.

                  Good luck.   Susan

For all opiate scripts my docs prescribe senecot stool softener in the morning and dulcolax laxative at night. Swear by it. Never a missed BM. Might try that if needed. Juice thing never worked for me.

Hi Zak, I was given a fantastic help for getting my leg getting into bed in the shape of a long bit of material. I think some people use dressing gown chords. It was really so easy to use and one of the best gadgets I was given, in fact it was the only gadget I was given by the hospital but a real winner. I wish I knew the answer to constipation, I get it from the minimum amount of codeine.

I have been using my cane to hook under my foot to lift the leg. Just wanted to put that out there for others. I have been using stool softeners morning and night and after day 4 post-op they FINALLY kicked in. Ah the little things in life that make us happy, eh?

Canes are also good, but I assume you need a round handle rather than a straight handle to make it easier.
